Risk Day 23 - It Seems OSU Used Our Surge To Rally The Troops. Let's Return The Favor

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on April 15th, 2020 at 11:09 AM

An interesting phenomenon happens every time we see a surge in participation from you, the Michigan faithful....Ohio State gets a large surge the next night. Last night, they got over 200 new players, which rocketed them past us, again, for the lead in participation (1131 vs. 974). We still have the advantage in power, but -- again -- that lead will dissipate quickly if we don't keep recruiting more Good Guys.

I told you yesterday that, by the end of last round, we were averaging around 900-1,100 people. I'm not sure if that will even be enough this time around. With everybody bored and competitive-deprived due to this damn pandemic, coupled with OSU taking the game seriously this round, we're going to have to push the pedal to the metal in a way that we haven't done before. I'm talking 1,500+.

Maybe (definitely) I'm going a bit nuts here, but I want to win dammit! So let's push, push, push! Get your siblings to sign up. Tell your teleworking colleagues to sign up. Bribe/threaten your kids into signing up. If there's only going to be one champion in college sports for the rest of 2020 (PLEASE let me be wrong...), let's make sure it's the Maize and Blue (and that it's not shudders OSU)! Go Blue!

We're tied for 1st place. I kept forgetting to submit a turn every couple days and would lose the stars. Important to play every day and keep a streak going.

I'm wishing for some MVP luck to bump my star count. I made it to two stars (round play) and three stars (streak), but it will be another five days to hit two stars overall. I'm sure I'm too old to figure out how to get a r/CFB award.

MVPs are randomly determined and very hard to get when you have big numbers like our team. I've played almost every turn of both rounds and have a grand total of 1 MVP.

r/CFB awards are also essentially impossible for new users to get (I have no idea if anybody on our team has any).

The best way to rank up is to play every day, and that's pretty much the only way to rank up without absurd luck.

The map should be divided into 6 regions and teams controlling a region should get some bonus.

Star power should be spent, used up, etc in battles.

Teams that don't take a new territory on a turn should be penalized (helps eliminate teams that are barely hanging on).

Basically the game has to have more of the mechanics of actual Risk.

How long does this game last? I've read where some have been playing the last 2 years, will this go on until we have two powers (hopefully one being Michigan). Are we looking at a 5 year war here?

It has not gone on for 2 years! There was a version (run by r/cfb) two years ago that lasted 65 days. They tried a "pandemic" version last year but that was short lived and never amounted to anything. This current iteration is not run by r/cfb and there is not a set date on when it will end but I think 50 days has been discussed (we just finished day 23). The discord has been active since the first game, but we talk about other things such as Michigan sports and how Detroit style pizza is so much better than other pizza styles.
