No real details. He was living in Evanston, a friend of a friend. Died yesterday.

According to this - (LINK) - he collapsed during a workout at the McGaw YMCA in Evanston and could not be revived, from the sound of this statement below:

Steven King, sports and family manager for the McGaw YMCA in Evanston, collapsed while working-out at the Y Friday and died despite emergency aid by YMCA staff, paramedics and hospital staff.

McGaw Y Communications Director Cherita Ellens says King had a tremendous impact on the youth and families with whom he worked in the Sebring-Lewis Center and all who knew him at the YMCA.

well when we were on UM campus and after. One of those guys on the ball team that didn't have the entitled vibe. Talked to everyone. Was a really nice dude. This is horrible news. Life can be so weird. RIP Steve.

I remember him as a player.  He played on some really good defensive teams and was a starter for a few years.  The article link above said he was a cornerback, but actually he played strong safety.  But, it sounds like he was really making an impact in his jobs for the Y and coaching football.  RIP Steve.

I knew Steve pretty well when we attended Michigan back in the day. All the positive things people are saying about him are very true. Steve was a really good guy and it's really sad that he passed away at such a young age. I was a loud, obnoxious, irritating jerkoff and Steve was the kind of guy that was a friend to everyone.

I asked one of the guys who played with him if there was any kind of fund set up for his kids/family that I could contribute to and never got a response back. I also asked Dave Brandon on Twitter iand he never replied.

Guys that young never have enough insurance because they don't see something like this coming. I sincerely hope the King family is doing alright. I know Steve had at least one daughter who is of college age and another child who is very young. I hope that the guys from the squad and the athletic department are doing something for the King family if they need it.

Actually, I just did a little more digging and found this:

Donations to cover service expenses and support the family during this time will be accepted at the Memorial Service and via mail.  Please make checks payable to “Steve King Memorial Fund.”  Checks can also be mailed to Steve King Memorial Fund, c/o First Bank & Trust, 820 Church Street, Evanston, IL 60201.

I'll send something to them this week. I hope others will do the same.
