RIP Forrest Gregg
Vince Lombardi called him the "best player I ever coached."
He was elite in high school, during college and throughout his professional career. Forrest Gregg coached in College, the NFL and the CFL. He led teams to Super Bowls both as a player and coach. He beat cancer twice and in his later years fought Parkinson’s Disease.
Rest easy Coach Gregg, you fought the good fight!

Sad, so many of our childhood heroes are dying.
Isn't that kind of how life works?

That's because we are getting older.
He survived cancer twice.
FTFY
OP, cancer is sometimes so bad that "beating" it isn't possible no matter how hard you try. Accordingly, use of that word is questionable in some scenarios.

That can be true in the medical sense, depending on what stage you have.
One can also have stage 4 cancer and still beat it even when you die from it. Such was the case with my dad.
To live is Christ, to die is gain.
Phil 1:21
RIP, Coach...
I best remember him for the excellent Bengals teams he coached, including the SB loss to Montana on the game winning drive in the last 1:30.
Wasn't that Sam Wyche?
EDIT: I'm guessing you meant the Silverdome Super Bowl, though that was a Bengals comeback that fell short rather than a Montana game-winning drive like '89.

My dad took my family (6) to the 1962 Thanksgiving Day game when the Lions beat the Packers in the greatest football memory I have of that old building.
Forrest Gregg was the tackle on that team Vince Lombardi called his "greatest team".
They were 10-0 and the Lions had 11 sacks that were celebrated in the roar of the crowd like breakaway game-winning dunks.
Great memory.
RIP Real Man Football Player that helped invent the NFL popularity before it dwindled to what it is..............
He was also the first coach of his Alma mater SMU after they came back from the death penalty in the late 80's. Not a lot of coaches would've been brave enough to take that job.
Gregg was GOAT before there were GOATs.
Parkinson's is definitely no picnic - my father is entering Stage 4 of it right now and it is....well, fuck Parkinson's AND cancer.
RIP Coach Gregg.
this is a picture of forrest gregg, and this is a picture of what football should be:
That is a badass picture! That is what football is supposed to look like. RIP Mr. Gregg.
