Riddle: What is a DC that does not call the defense?
This is from an article on Jabba calling the offense for 09 on ESPN.com.
"I thought the best chance for us to win this year would be to make me the offensive coordinator," Weis said.
Weis also announced that defensive coordinator Corwin Brown has been promoted to associate head coach and now will be co-defensive coordinator with linebacker coach Jon Tenuta.
Tenuta, who joined the team last year and helped change Notre Dame's scheme to a more attacking style, will call the defensive plays in 2009.
"Because I'm now running the offense, not just the play-caller, Corwin is now kind of my second in command," Weis said. "There's going to be times where I need input from him, especially during the season, on some matters as it relates to the defense overall and special teams, because I'm going to be spending the majority of my time during the season with the offense."
Corwin, I like you, loved the hit on Bettis (took bad he still scored) at the goal line in ND, but dude, you aren't calling the defense anymore. You are Weis's caddy. Why would he ask you about the "defense overall" if you don't call it. I know this assistant head coach thing is the rage, but really? You have special teams and errands to White Castle. Polish up the resume and take a look around my friend. Something better has to be out there. The best chance for that team to win is not for fat ass to call the plays, but to use oil from his blubber to heat the offseason practice facility, could use more reps.

maybe Charlie will be a better OC than HC, because it sounds like he will have nothing to do with the defense.
Previously I have read that Charlie spent all of his time with Brady Quinn and that did not work out too well.
Fascinating to watch him in action wiht that giant beef head and giant ego.

Let me guess. He's not a "Michigan Man" anymore because he dared to recruit kids to ND that were also considering UM?

I thought charlie handed off the play calling to someone else in 08 to focuse solely on the HC as his play calling in 07 sucked big donkey balls. So, Charlie is just going back to what he was doing in 07. This should be interesting to see.

I thought he already went back on his word after they got shut out BC game last year, just in time to call plays against the weak defenses of Navy and Syracuse (snicker).

Notre Dame is constantly changing the roles of its coaches. One game Weiss calls the plays, and the next the offensive coordinator (at least last year). Now they're instituting an "associate head coach" who is also the "co-defensive coordinator."
This reeks of desperation. Granted, Notre Dame SHOULD win at least 8 or 9 games this season based the schedule and their talent, but I cannot imagine that the lack of continuity helps. Players do not benefit from constant changes in who is coordinating the defense, who is calling the plays, etc.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. But I would guess Notre Dame's weak schedule, if nothing else, saves Weiss' job.

I think the hit you're referring to was on Reggie Brooks. The one that knocked him out as he fell into the end zone? That was Reggie Brooks. Jerome Bettis was on that team though.
