Is he just trolling or is there anything to this? I hope he's trolling but he sounded serious. I assumed whatever kept him out during the spring would be resolved by the time the season rolled around so this was news to me. Not trying to start a panic as it's odd an MSU insider would have this info but was curious if anyone knew what is going on and why these rumors seem to be out there.

We should probably pump the brakes on this until we hear from a legit source. This initially sounds to me like Rico taking the quote from Harbaugh during spring practice when he said it may be more serious than they thought, and inferring that DPJ is out for the year to rile up his sparty fan base.

No. This sort of take is recycled each time an unexpected source reports some dubious inside information. I doubt Sam would give some inside info to Rico Beard and then give him the green light to spill the beans. And if Rico randomly decided to Judas Sam, why would it be over this random piece of information?

He's not clairvoyant, and gets stuff from people who also get things wrong occasionally (remember how the staff got blindsided in cases like Isaiah Wilson?)

I'm pretty sure Brian has verified before that he's legit. Even insiders are wrong sometimes. When you're dealing with 18-22 year olds, there will be some uncertainty and wavering.
I think people on this blog mistake who and wthat umbig is. He is definitely an insider, and has access to the building. But he is not a coach or a trainer/doctor. Therefore sometimes his depth chart or injury info isn't 100%. But in terms of general top level stuff about what is going on with personnel, coaches and players coming and going, he's been correct. He can't read minds. And he isn't Sam Webb, but Sam's access comes at it's own price (positive spinner/media propagandist).
