Random Recruiting Question: What's the deal with Lynn Wyche-El?
So I try to follow recruiting as best I can, and I often try to make "best guess lists" in my head. It's more of a way to stay organized since I have no desire or capacity to follow everything nationally.
Anyway, one of the positons that I'd like to see us add a player in this class is the speedy slot WR/KR/PR (i.e., Henning). We were on Kaleb Brown for awhile, but he chose the enemy.
But anyone know the deal with this Lynn Wyche-El kid from Detroit King? He is small, 5'-10", 172 and a 3* composite of 569.
That said, I've never once heard about him on our radar. His offer list is Washington, Syracuse and yikes.
Admittedly, I'm being lazy by creating this post and I'm hopeful someone who really follows recruiting (Magnus?) can chime in and provide some insight.
I've always said, we should have 1-2 Henning/Dennis Norfleet types on the roster every year. Has there ever been any interest from Michigan?

Do we want somebody with an offer list of Washington, Syracuse, and yikes? There's probably a reason he is not on our radar.

Maybe pick up a different hobby?

I don’t know anything specific but could just be that he’s undersized (5’10”) and Covid really limited recruits like that with lack of camps/scouting. Gattis has said before he likes his receivers tall or fast. He’s not tall, and I couldn’t readily find anything stating he’s clocked a fast 40 anywhere. Could be a kid that blows up with senior film and gets a look later by some teams based on that. Have you seen anything about him being an elite speed guy? Seems like the staff has evaluated him in person at a camp so maybe they are waiting for his senior film?

Agreed...if he is listed at 5'10' and 172lbs, he is almost certainly, in reality, probably 5'8" and 165lbs.

They like Semaj Morgan better.

Different recruiting classes

I think pursuing his recruitment is on par w putting Barrett at Fullback.
Take that for what it's worth...

Call Sam Webb or EJ Holland.

Well Sparty isn't on him either, so maybe it's a grade issue or maybe he isnt that good. I don't think recruiting a slot is that big a deal right now.

Well, shit - if you’ve always said it maybe Harbaugh needs to wake the F@$# up and get on this guy!?!?

You answered your own question.

No. Actually, it's his mom.

Anyone with "El" at the end of their name is good in my books
Kal-El
Randle-El (who I saw play at the Big House when he was at Indiana, great player)
Wyche-El

awe....El, lets take a look at this young man.

I've kept track of Wyche-El a little bit over the past couple seasons, but I don't think he's Michigan-offer-worthy. He has a little bit of quickness, but the top end speed isn't really there and he doesn't have good size. I do think Michigan should be trying to land 1-2 slot/returner athletes per year, but they have to be the right guys.
Norfleet is more famous among Michigan fans for his dancing than anything else.
Fun fact: Norfleet never scored a single touchdown at Michigan.

Yeah, I liked Norfleet well enough but he always struck me as someone people thought would be better than he was and chasing the "small guy who's sorta fast" is usually not going to end with a lot of great results.

Norfleet and Henning are different caliber players

Norfleet has to be up there in the list of "former players who are still really well-known despite having done nothing here". Obviously he was a bad for the offense as well but still. I'm pretty sure he didn't even do much at whatever program he transferred to.

He did a decent job at Tuskegee. He ran for 761 yards and 4 touchdowns, threw a touchdown pass, and caught 12 passes for 180 yards. He was also first team all-conference as a kick returner. But Tuskegee is a D-II school.
