QBs wearing the #5
(Because you definitely don't have other things to think about, right?)
Bentley Historical Library runs one of the coolest search engines available if you're a big M historian or just a huge fan. I was wondering how many other quarterbacks have slipped on the #5 jersey, and how many did it as a freshman.
If (when, more likely) Tate Forcier steps onto the field Saturday he will be the fifth(!) quarterback in Michigan history to don the #5 jersey.
The list:
1919: Clifford Sparks
1923: Irwin Uteritz
1976: John Wangler (first to wear it as a freshman)
1984: John Whitledge
2009: Tate Forcier

(I can't imagine this is a re-post but, if it is, +1,000,000 to the original poster.)

Jalen Rose. After all, he quarterbacked a great offense in the early 90s. Plus, he did it as a freshman too. I'll sure as heck take a loss in the MNC game with "Fab Five Tate" and the team we have this year.

That's pretty odd that he is the fifth to wear the number 5, though. Maybe that's some sort of sign for good things to come this year. With that statistic, I would have to assume that he'll throw for five Tds, run for 5 more with 155 yards, and throw for 555 yards. Sorry, it's just statistics.

Per game?

I was meaning for this first game. I was being extremely overly optimistic. That was more of a "holy shit stop pouring the damn juice my glass is overflowing on the flour, my wife is going to kill me" thing.

include Donovan McNabb at Syracuse. Not bad company to keep.

Bring me a reincarnation and we'll be in good shape.
Je'Ron Stokes = Human Torpedo II ????

Uteritz was a beast for that '23 team. With a name like Uteritz, he was destined for greatness out of the womb.

his first two varsity years. The team was undefeated and national champions in '23.

Great sign in the crowd at a game I was at in 1979..."5+1=6"
(John Wrangler throwing to Anthony Carter = TD - for those of you with an OSU education)

now all we need is someone to don the #1 next year and it can be deja vu

we have never needed a WR back with #1. Hopefully we get that tradition back soon. I need to see, or be holding that sign.
