Purchasing Group Tickets

Submitted by Ibow on June 6th, 2021 at 3:01 PM

Anyone have any experience purchasing group tickets for football? They go on sale this coming week with a minimum purchase of 10. We’d like to take a group of our kids/grandkids but we don’t want to end up in the middle of an end zone in row 80.
We’re not expecting 50 yard line, 15 rows up but even corner end zone would be great.
If you’ve purchased before, where did you end up?

Don't knock row 80 (actually, rows 70-80, for that matter).

Our season tickets (8 of them total on our order) are in the north end zone rows 78 and 79; we only have to walk down to about row 75 and out the portal to get to concessions and restrooms (and shade on those hot Saturdays in September). Much preferable to end zone seats in any of the first 30 or so rows---and the sightlines are better than in the corners. I always bring binoculars for use when the ball is in the opposite red zone; otherwise no problem seeing the plays develop.

We've been in the same spot since 1980 and have another gent (an alumni) with 6 seats for his family and friends sitting right in front of us also in row 77. He's been there for 30 seasons or so and has tailgated with us for 25 seasons, years ago we all considered moving to another section in search of "better" seats until we briefly sobered up and realized, WTF is wrong with staying right here?

My dad had tickets in the South end zone for 30 years or so. Row 74, maybe. I remember turning left, going up a couple steps and there were our seats. Seemed a lot better than going down and up 50 rows. The end zone view is great for watching run plays develop.

Yeah, I know. We’ve sat all over and it’s hard to say there’s a bad seat in the house.

The past few years we’ve been able to get tickets right here using the MgoBlog Spreadsheet and one way or another we were able to finagle great seats and we’ve gotten spoiled. I guess when I talk to the ticket office tomorrow morning, we’ll find out what the options are.

Huge bummer - apparently MgoBlog is no longer going to do the Spreadsheet. Such a shame as it was such a GREAT resource for situations like this.

Thanks for your responses. I agree… my wife and I have season tickets in Section 16, row 52 and they are good seats.

Exactly.  Especially if you are "high enough".  I digress:

Some 35 or more years ago on a nice fall Saturday at Michigan Stadium for a game vs Illinois, one of my buddies brought along a bowl and baggie and we went out at halftime to a somewhat secluded spot behind some spruce trees along the fence line and enjoyed a bit of the evil weed.  Back then, the distinct fragrance of pot was still not uncommon in the stands at The Big House, just not nearly as common as in the 70's, though, when a cloud often hung over the stadium.

Upon returning to my seat early in the second half, I suddenly felt "enlightenment" and started predicting the next play from scrimmage* (somewhat accurately, at least in my own mind). After several plays, I announced to my buddies that I "felt like I was in the huddle", I was so attuned to the play calling.

To this day, I still get asked occasionally by my Michigan Football buddies if I'm "in the huddle".

Will never live it down, I guess.

[*note that Bo was still the coach and the play calling was pretty damn predictable. But I also seemed to have that vibe when the Illini were on offense that day  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.   ]

Here's another post in support of high-row end zone seats. No, I wouldn't say they're the best seats in the house, but IMO they beat corner seats and most others where you're too close to the field to see distant plays.

In the end zone you can do your own All-22 continuously. Great on passing plays ...

In general, I like being able to easily see the whole field. You can't do that well from many seats.

I'm going to piggyback on this, but I suggest corners instead of the endzone. I love sitting up higher because my favorite part of the game is watching the DB vs WR/TE battle. That gets taken away from you on TV. I feel like the corners, about row 80, in Michigan Stadium give you a great view of the All 22 and all the other action you want to see on the field. You do sacrifice some of the view for goal line action, but I think it's worth it.

It's been nearly a day and nobody has directly responded to the OP's question, haha. The only posts have been non-sequiters to what was actually asked.

I have no knowledge to share. However, I don't think anyone really does since it's rare for the AD to offer group tickets - I believe the only time they have done it (since, like the 60s/70s) was the nadir of the Brandon/Hoke days in 2014. Our season ticket sales are generally strong enough that group sales haven't been necessary.

I would call the ticket office and just ask. They'll probably be able to help you get a general idea. It depends on how many tickets have been sold for whatever game you're trying to get into, and they can probably work you into whatever empty space there is. I'm pretty confident you could find an acceptable combination of section/row for your group.
