Sources: Notre Dame is finalizing a deal to make Penn State coach Micah Shrewsberry the school’s next head coach.

Coach Shrewsberry graduated from the same HS that my kids attended.  He's been back to the HS on occasion to speak to their basketball team.  The feedback from my son was he was an outstanding speaker - great message and very relatable.  Regardless of the team composition at Penn St, getting the Nittany Lions to the NCAA Tournament is a pretty impressive accomplishment.  He was going to be hired by some school.  Not an ND fan, but a good hire for them.

I'm interested to see what ND looks like post Brey.  Micah is a good coach but he's coached the 11th most experienced and then the most experienced teams in the country at PSU.  And they were full of transfers.  He might be successful at ND but there's also a real chance they bought high on a guy who parlayed basically 2 weeks of wins into a tourney bid.

Not a home run. (Ed Cooley would have been a  home run in this hiring cycle.) but Shrewsbury has a deep resume (assistant at Purdue and Celtics). It is hard to follow a guy who has been there 23 years.

That’s going to be a big loss for Penn State.  Shrewsbury is a terrific coach — Penn State should have ponied up so that they were only competing with the NBA for him in five years, and not merely losing him to Notre Dame.

On a personal note… it means living in South Bend vs State College.

Now, if he was smart, he’d buy a home in Niles, Michigan - and have a short commute to campus / work.
