PSA: Football season ticket renewals start on Jan. 25

Submitted by BlueMan80 on January 4th, 2022 at 1:55 PM

Season ticket renewals had previously started in Dec, but for the 2022 season Jan. 25 will be the starting date.  Went looking for the info and thought others may be wondering about this, too.  Now on my caendar.

Looking forward to a great 2022 season.  Go Blue!

There is a waitlist, but if you have money, you can move up the list.

I was on the waitlist for years (but never donated much money), then the second year of RR happened and I read that season ticket renewals were at an all-time low.  I called the ticket office and asked why I haven't been moved off this waitlist by now.  They simply said, "donate $500 to athletic department and then you can buy season tickets".  Done!

Annually.  It used to be a "Preferred Seating Donation" that could be deducted from taxes, now it is not tax deductible.  Now they just strongly suggest that you donate.  I do it because I like that it helps the non-revenue sports.

As for seats, I can only state my experience.  I did not have the option to pick my seats once I got my season tickets at first.  However, ever year, they ask if you want to move your seats and you can ask the general area of where you want to go.  More years of having season tickets (and donating) gives you more clout to move to a more favorable location.

I don't think that is what he was asking.

Yes, once you have tickets you have to "donate" every year, though everyone knows the donation is just part of the price of the tickets.

I think he is asking what you have to do to move up on the waitlist, which is a different animal.

Yes, once you get season tickets, you can renew them every year, pretty much forever, unless something happens like they shrink capacity in the stadium and you haven't had them for very long, but that isn't really likely to happen.

Thanks both - that's helpful. I saw some pricing online at the UM ticketing website and crazy that the pricing seemed pretty static by section whether youre in row 80 or row 10. Guess it pays to keep them longer. Looked like about 600 a ticket and variable amounts of "donation"... for the tickets. Still, if you sell off 1-2 good games you should easily make chunks of that back, I'd assume.

I got tix in the RR years (outside of when I was a student in the 90s), and it was a "one time" thing where you didn't need to donate. I went to the OSU game and sold PSU for 200 a piece and 2-3 other games for 50-150 varying. I had to eat a couple early games, but it was worth it in the end easily. Worth it in money - going to watch OSU blast us was not.. worth anything.

torn.  i anticipate attending sons' games on saturdays as they should be in the two-deep and/or starting, but not at michigan. maybe i'll buy and transfer the whole pack to someone else?

2022 schedule here, and no, we don't play in EL next year so not sure how they'll reconfigure that.  if they flip that game to AA we'd only have 3 road games and 9 home games.

I wonder if all those who got rid of their season tickets after 2020 season, now wish they had kept them. How long is the wait to get on the season ticket. When I retire from my job in 5 to 6 years, I would like to get season tickets and live up in southern MI for the football season.  Should I look into season tickets now  and if I get them just sell them until I can retire, or wait a few more years?

As of this week, the University of Michigan had sold 84,629 season tickets for its seven-game home schedule, associate athletic director and team spokesman Dave Ablauf told MLive.

That figure includes 66,134 regular, full-priced season tickets and 18,495 student season tickets, the lowest combined total since Jim Harbaugh arrived in Ann Arbor prior to the 2015 season.

2015: 87,989 (69,990 regular/ 17,999 students)

2016: 87,768 (70,089 regular/ 17,679 students)

2017: 91,126 (70,158 regular/ 20,968 students)

2018: 87,843 (69,616 regular/ 18,227 students)

2019: 91,934 (71,578 regular/ 20,356 students)

2020: N/A

2021: 84,629 (66,134 regular/ 18,495 students)

That was from September 2021.

We got rid of ours after having them for 30 years, and as much as I would’ve LOVED to have been at the Washington and OSU games, I really don’t miss being there. Being gone all day, the costs involved (seating fee, tickets, parking, food), and having game times switched all over the place finally took it’s toll. If we want to go to a game here or there, tickets are always available. It was time to pass on the torch.

This is a tough call.  I hang onto mine because my family has had 4 seats together for 44 years and you can't get 4 together anymore unless you are a big $$$ doner.

But in terms of getting season tickets now vs. waiting, it really depends on how comfortable you are with StubHub.  If you don't get season tickets right when you retire, it is not difficult to obtain game tickets via StubHub every week.  Yes, you will end up paying a lot in fees and you won't sit in the same place every week, but it would give you flexibility to wait until you know you want season tickets.  And for the "woof" games you can usually get in pretty cheap.

The drawback of getting season tickets before you want them is that you have to sell them every year.  If you have family/friends you can sell them to then go for it.  If you have to sell them yourselves it certainly can be done, but if you don't do it right you can take a loss.  I usually do well the years that OSU/MSU is on the schedule and struggle the other seasons, though COVID made this year a difficult sell for some of the early games.  And now OSU/MSU will be back to opposite years which will help a lot.

i am not renewing for 2022. the cost is insane. good seats but approx $1300 per year per seat is a bit steep. so $2500-2600 per year for my two tix including the donation.

i can pick out the top 4 games on stubhub and pay less than a grand for decent seats. won't have to pay the cost of the other ticket anymore. i will allocate my savings to bad cub games; partial season tickety holder now. i typically pay under $2k for 40 decent cub tickets a year.
