Prospect to watch: ATH Kody Jones

Wiltfong just logged a CB with a confidence of 7 for ATH Kody Jones out of Germantown, TN.

He’s 5’11, 180lbs and the #279 player in the country.

EJ Holland also tweeted out his emoji when a new commitment is on the horizon though no name given but I’m assuming the two things aren’t coincidental.

If they can use this opening to establish connections to Tennessee it could become a solid pipeline. It is not nearly as far for parents to travel as the deep South states. Nashville is a bit of a drive to A2 (about 700 miles) but not unreasonable. Round trip air is not too steep at just under $200 per person. And some away games are a very reasonable drive at around 400 to 500 miles. Indiana, Champaign, Ohio (ugh).

Sam Webb and Josh Newkirk have also put in crystal balls.

Jones probably projects best at corner or nickel. The hybrid nickel/safety role that Seth described seems up his alley. From watching his sophomore film, Jones looks pretty athletic, but rather raw as a corner. Unfortunately I didn't see any film from this past year, so I'm interested to see how he has improved his coverage skills.

Targeting Tennessee is a move that I like. There are 12 4* prospects in the 2022 class there. Tennessee is the only school that recruits at a high level in-state, and they are going through a coaching transition (coming off recruiting sanctions and to a mediocre recruiter to boot), so this seems like a good time to make some inroads. In addition to Jones and Groves, I think we also are targeting 4* OT Fisher Anderson and the big prize, 5* DT Walter Nolen (#2 overall). 247 seems to think we'll have a shot at Nolen, but it certainly won't be as easy as a single Mo Linguist phone call.

It shouldn't be too hard.  There are a TON of Midwest transplants in the Nashville area and so I would expect it to be almost as fertile for B1G teams as it is for the SEC if you put in some time.  I see Michigan, Ohio St, and Michigan St. stuff here all the time, not as much as I see Tennessee or Alabama stuff, but I would think that Michigan offers would at least find a willing ear as it's likely a recruit here has some connection to a Michigan fan.
