Playcalling Breakdown of Denard
Note: I did not count some of the plays that looked liked option in the 4th Quarter because I think Denard would have handed off without reading the defense.
Read-Option
25
Straight Running Plays
20 (including 1 QB Sneak)
QB Scramble
1 (happens in the 3rd @ 9:20 where Denard looks to throw, see nothing open, and takes the lane in front of him.
Hope to see more of those QB Scrambles powerd by Dilithium.

"Running" play calling. He did throw it 20+ times, no?
EDIT: for a good visual sample of "Denard density" in this game, check out the play-by-play in the third quarter mamoth drive that ends in a FG. That's a lot of "Denard Robinson"s.

Our play calling against UConn was very vanilla because RR found out early in the game that they could not stop the QB power. We will see more and different types of read options throughout the rest of the season. We'll see some veer option as well. The biggest thing about play calling in college and the nfl is keeping the defense off balance and making them respect the entire field. I'm hoping that we take a successful deep shot or two against ND because then we'll be nearly impossible to stop by making their safety's play deeper then they're used to.

And I'm hoping we don't have to

I was under the impression that most of the plays that appeared to be zone reads were actually designed runs.
Could someone who understands the play on sight better than I do explain whether this was the case, and how successful Denard was at running that specific play?
