PFF College Dream Team: Jabrill and Jourdan included

Submitted by TheJoker on

Something to pass the time. Alabama leads the way with 3 players, Michigan has two, no one else has more than one.

Jourdan Lewis, Michigan

A feisty man corner, no cornerback can match Lewis’ production in coverage the last two years as he had the top coverage grade coming into the season and this year he’s only allowed three catches on 10 targets for seven yards. Lewis can mirror receivers an man coverage and he combines that with strong tackling and fine work against the run.

Jabrill Peppers, Michigan

We’re calling Peppers a safety on our Dream Team and we’ll tap into his versatility and move him all around the defense. He can play the run as his 86.5 grade ranks second in the nation and he’s equally adept at attacking as a blitzer. Peppers covers tight ends well and we’ll use him in that capacity, while also letting him dabble as a runner and on special teams where he’s showed off his athleticism this season.

I mean to be fair his second one against Wisconsin was just a terrible overthrow to an open WR that happened to land in Stribling's arms.

I don't remember the one against Hawaii too well, but the first one against Wisconsin was great coverage by him. He also had a couple great pass break ups as well.

You can't just nullify turnovers based on your assessed degree of difficulty. I haven't watched every pick made by OSU CBs but I assume all of them haven't been Lewis game clincher or Woodson Sideline level of difficulty...Sometimes our fanbase is too critical in my opinion, as I have never heard another group of fans have this level of scrutiny over a positive defensive play.

Yeah in fact seems like several of OSU's picks were throws directly to them where the defender didn't even need to move or break stride. Which makes it funnier that they keep citing interception numbers to show why XYZ is such a great player (and herp derp Lewis/Peppers wouldn't even start on their defense)

That was overturned was him making a great break and diving for the int. The second one, that counted, was the qb throwing a prayer because Gary was coming, and doing so with bad intentions. He makes great breaks and is usually in better position to make a play than the wr.

or just a function of the fact that it's hard to stand out when a unit is that good.  Perhaps Taco or Wormley or Glasgow are the best at their position and perhaps not....Just hard to tell when everyone is arriving to smash the QB or RB at the same time.

But worry not, Rashan Gary will be on this list the next 2 years.

No one on our line is as good as Garrett, Barnett or Reed. Those guys are top 10 picks right now and Reed and Garrett will be gone by 6 and Barnett looks like Woodley's clone to me. Glasgow over Ed Oliver is the only one we could maybe argue but they have broken down both tapes and I haven't so I'm going to defer to them. What makes our line good is not that we have a Lebron level guy but that our entire 2 deep is about Paul George level, not the best in the world but top 10 for sure.

I'm curious as to how much of that stems from a lack of a lot of passing threats in the conference. Not one team in the Big Ten that I can think of off the top of my head is an elite passing threat. OSU and UM are good in that regard, but not elite by any stretch.

It's like that situation a few years back (I think 2012) when a ton of Big Ten teams were top 20 in the nation in pass defense, but that was because no one in the conference could throw the ball.

I know he doesn't have the same stats, but I'd still go with Butt. He could definitely have the stats if we needed him to have the stats.
