Watch the fake
November 13th, 2021 at 6:54 PM ^
We had the right call for the punt fake, but our player in coverage got caught looking back for an instant and that was it.
November 13th, 2021 at 7:14 PM ^
The right call would have had a safety over there.
November 13th, 2021 at 7:51 PM ^
I think you trust that you can cover a blocking back with one guy. He’s not necessarily the only read. If the safety is off to that side, the punter may run it to the other side. You want the safety available to defend either sideline.

Franklin felt so bad that we gave up the fake punt after calling a timeout to prepare for it, that he decided to call a 2nd fake just to give us a second chance to stop one.
November 13th, 2021 at 7:09 PM ^
I mean, you have to be right. One should feel bad when you call a fake in the most obvious fake situation and the other team calls a timeout and still derps it. Pure Michigan.
November 13th, 2021 at 11:11 PM ^
Then we stopped them when it mattered. Pure Michigan
November 13th, 2021 at 3:46 PM ^
Great kicking. No FG needed today. Snuffing out the fake FG attempt by Penn State early in the game was decisive.
November 13th, 2021 at 5:02 PM ^
Jake deserved the day off!
November 13th, 2021 at 3:46 PM ^
Robbins was sensational. Dotson never had a punt he could return.
Moody money on PATS. Hope PSU has some effective trickeration left for MSU.
November 13th, 2021 at 3:58 PM ^
That game could be a battle of trickerators.
November 13th, 2021 at 5:03 PM ^
Dude, you coulda stopped after 'Moody money'
November 13th, 2021 at 3:58 PM ^
They had the fake punt sniffed out and covered basically, just messed up the execution
November 13th, 2021 at 8:05 PM ^
I like the replay of Franklins “Fuck me” (lip reading) just before the commercial break!
November 13th, 2021 at 4:23 PM ^
Not blaming him for the collision but Henning didn't look right today returning punts. I'd like to see someone else back there until he's healthy.
November 13th, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
Why don’t teams use two receivers for returning punts anymore?
November 13th, 2021 at 4:27 PM ^
i'm with ya. i always liked a guy 10-15 yds shorter to catch short punts or block the first guy downfield. but there must be a reason nobody does it.
November 14th, 2021 at 12:04 PM ^
I'm guessing it opens you up to a lot of trickeration when you only have 9 D guys being blocked by 10.

This will be the near useless thread that takes up most of the board for nearly 24 hours.
kidding: I like the the thread.

Henning on those punt returns…..always an adventure.
Kid has some wheels and can bust a big run but to my untrained eye it seems like he takes way too many chances and I’m amazed he hasn’t coughed up a fumble yet.
November 13th, 2021 at 5:19 PM ^
Our special teams look amazingly average when we aren’t kicking 6 straight field goals…
….and I’m okay with that
November 13th, 2021 at 8:07 PM ^
MOAR Red Zone TD’s please!
November 14th, 2021 at 8:11 AM ^
Totally agree but, damn, I'm still glad we have Moody just in case.
November 13th, 2021 at 5:35 PM ^
ST have been the strength of this team all year. Today,. not so much.
Fantastic time out call to prepare for a fake punt. Somehow it still worked. I'm sorry, but that was a STUPID call by Franklin, running a fake after a time out. Should never have worked. Incredible blunder by Michigan punt team - how do you not stop a fake punt you had an entire time out to prepare for? Crazy.
OTOH, Michigan seemed very prepared for fake FG. Well done.
Punt returner and blocker playing keystone cops. We were incredibly lucky that didn't result in a turnover.
50% on attempts to pin the ball down close. Terrific punts that should both have worked.
Most games our ST are an A+. Today was probably a C.
November 13th, 2021 at 7:25 PM ^
Punt gunners should overrun the punt heading toward the goal line and stand guard at the 2 yd line. Trailing the punt to the goal line almost never works out because of momentum. Otherwise, M special teams are great.
November 13th, 2021 at 8:09 PM ^
Agree and happy the one got overturned and pinned PSU at the 1 yard line
November 14th, 2021 at 6:00 AM ^
Please do not let the ball hit the turf when recieving a punt. If the punter has the wind can we consider having (2) back deep to field the punt a fair catch at the 30 instead of roll to the 2?
November 14th, 2021 at 9:26 AM ^
Michigan has been averaging 20.7 yards per kick return this season. LINK Until Jehu Chesson and Jabrill Peppers are returning kickoffs again for Michigan, is it safest to take the fair catch on kicks that fall short of the end zone?
November 14th, 2021 at 4:27 PM ^
A fair catch guarantees you the ball at the 25. A return might be stopped short of that, but might well gain you more. I think it's a good gamble to take.
November 14th, 2021 at 10:25 AM ^
Why on the fake field goal by PSU can the holder throw the ball with a knee down? Are there special rules when going for a fake field goal?
November 14th, 2021 at 12:00 PM ^
I saw this too. I was wondering, "isn't that taking a knee?"
November 14th, 2021 at 4:28 PM ^
The holder is the one player who can have his knee on the ground. If not, field goals would have to be drop-kicked.
November 14th, 2021 at 12:57 PM ^
I gave it some time, and I'm still pissed that they let PSU convert the obvious fake punt from the 39 after burning a timeout.
November 14th, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
When I saw PSU line up for a punt, I remarked it was an obvious fake. I was happy to see that we called a time out, thinking that we were going to strategize, expecting a fake punt; however, I read somewhere that Harbaugh said the time out was called due to us having too many players on the field.
And yes, the placeholder can,and always does, have his knee on the ground and that is allowed.
I want to know that in a situation where a fake punt is a strong possibility, why have anybody back to field the punt? While you obviously run the risk of a punt more likely to be downed deep in your own end, you make it less likely for a fake punt to succeed.
