i love the defector.com site, which rose from the ashes of deadspin a few years back.  they’ve got a few michigan-based and -adjacent writers, featuring one lauren theisen.  she’s awesome.

anyhoo, she took the “michigan vs. everybody” thing and listed “everybody.”

The whole "Michigan hasn't faced a QB like Penix" thing cracked me up. Dude was the Heisman runner-up, of course we hadn't. What was that supposed to mean? Joe Moore o-line they hadn't faced our defensive front all year. And the DBs, holy hell. That's why we play the game, y'all.

EVERYONE who follows the B1G knew that Michigan's defense would be way better than Washington has seen all year.  The pac2 doesn't play defense!!  Penix is a great qb but when you line up 11 guys against 11 guys, they were outmatched and I was never worried (ok maybe for a minute) we would lose the lead.  This team was as much about heart as it was about skill.  Just look at Mikey.  That dawg willed guys to the ground on critical tackles.  Graham's motor just never slowed down.  Hats off to these young men.  What a joy and thrill to be able to cheer on this team.  GO BLUE!!

I assume she's trying to be humorous, but the Joe Moore Award was named after a former ND and Pitt OL coach, and its creation was led by former ND OL Aaron Taylor.

This one is particularly enjoyable. Well done UW, you scored 3 more points total, and the same amount of TD's, against UM as that high-powered offensive juggernaut Minnesota did (SP+ rank 89).

OMG,  I should have been reading defector! This story linked to another about how Jim Harbaugh listened to "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" to get pumped up, and how many players own Edmund Fitzgerald merch from the team's trip to the Great Lakes Shipwrecks Museum. 

The article quotes Cornelius Johnson, who was asked about wearing his Edmund Fitzgerald shirt in Happy Valley.

"It might seem weird because it’s not the most hyped-up song, but everyone’s got their routine. It’s a funny song because it does relate to Michigan and that area, Lake Superior and all that. So, it was cool. Just good lyrics in that song. Just a fighting mentality. We’re the lake." 

I think Jim's new tattoo should feature "We're the lake."
