Parking at Rutgers / SHI Stadium ?

Submitted by Blue Kool Aid on October 31st, 2022 at 3:18 PM

So I am driving up for the Rutgers game, but parking has me stumped.  I can find a mention that I should call the Rutgers Ticket office, that week's games available starting Monday, left a message.

Took links to both StubHub as well as Ticketmaster, dead ends.

Anybody been there?  is SHI the right stadium?

From the U-M Club of Northern New Jersey (UMNNJ):

We worked with Rutgers to secure discounted parking on campus for the game. Where you decide to park depends on how much you want to pay and whether you are coming to the club tailgate or not.

If you are coming to the UMNNJ Tailgate, we recommend parking in the Black Lot on Bartholomew Road for $20.

There is also discounted parking available at Jersey Mike's Arena (83 Rockafeller Road, Piscataway, NJ) for $10. (While you can purchase parking at the arena on gameday, it will cost you $25 instead of $10!) Also, parking at the arena will require you to take a free shuttle bus to get to the stadium and tailgate.

SHI Stadium is indicated in the middle of the map in between the Red and Brown parking lots.

Jersey Mike's Arena parking is in the upper right corner of the map, next to the orange P. There is also a shuttle logo near the parking lot indicating the pick up spot and route.

The Black Lot is where the black P is in the middle of the map.

The yellow P is the location of the UMNNJ Tailgate.

If you require ADA accessible parking, please call the Rutgers ticket office at 866-445-4678 (GORU) beginning on Monday 10/31 at 8:30am to reserve an accessible space.

Given that it’s Rutgers and in NJ, the garbage state, you would think that the administration would think twice about selling the naming rights to a company whose name or acronym is SHI. Invites too many jokes. Then again, maybe their team is enough of a joke to not care what the stadium is called.

Non-parking related FYI. Since it's a night game, the NJ Transit options back to NYC are going to be more limited than they would be with a day game. By the time the game ends, it's down to one train every hour on that line (leaving at :25 past the your).

If you're planning on taking the train, it's a good idea to get the NJ Transit app on your phone.

I have been to two RU games this year (yes, I know ...) and Michigan will be my third.  I've had good luck parking at the Hoes Lane West lot (yes, I know again... that is really the name).  It's a pretty hefty walk - about 20 minutes through campus.  But you don't need a pass ahead of time and it's pretty easy to get in and out without hitting too much traffic.  Cost is $25.

I’ve parked in Livingston a few times. Well organized, paved and relatively easy exit - just need to ride the shuttle or good hike to the stadium. I recall $20 for parking.

If you can get a pass closer, the parking is easy and tailgating a very casual event. Rutgers fans have a little NJ edge but actually fun because they know (they won’t admit it until they trust you a little bit) that their program stinks.
