It’s really starting to feel like the ship is turning around.

Unfortunately in this case the ship is the size of the Titanic and will probably take a long time to turn around. Also there is this giant iceberg called COVID that the captain needs to avoid.

Been a B1G skeptic that we'd have Fall football, but sure feels like this thing is turning around.  These Abbott tests, and the way the TEAM has performed so far makes me thing it's gonna be a great Labor Day weekend, with an announcement that M will take the field Columbus Day weekend.

This is good news but part of me is still bothered that these rapid tests apparently are going to be made available for student athletes while it appears your run-of-the-mill citizens may still have to wait a couple of days.

I do think that if testing becomes easier that will make a return in late fall more viable.  I severely doubt this makes the October 10th slot any more realistic.

Unfortunately the testing is not 100% accurate- so if one player has covid, it may spread it to all his teammates which could result in a season shut down. Hopefully this does not happen, but it is a possibility.

The Pac-12 announced Thursday that it plans to implement daily COVID-19 testing for student-athletes in "close-contact sports" by using testing machines that are expected to be delivered to campuses by the end of September.

"Even if we were ready to start tomorrow, we couldn't," Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said. "We've always thought about return to play in a very measured and thoughtful way. ... This is a very important and significant step, but there are other considerations that will go into our return to play."

There are six schools due to local health conditions that cannot even practice.

It wont happen overnight   but perhaps it could happen soon!

If I had a dollar for every time someone called one of these developments a "game changer"

BTW, this is the same rapid response antigen test that yielded the false positive for Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. Imagine if a star player had a false positive the day of the game? Do you hold them out even if the repeat is negative and isolate until you have PCR to confirm?

More importantly, Quidel's antigen tests reportedly can yield false negative up to 20% of the time which seems kind of high. If schools were to use this system, I think they would need to be testing daily and using PCR to confirm positive tests. But I am not sure I would call it a game changer yet.
