there's always a chance d rob is already faster then pat white right now and he's in high school so imagine when barwis gets a hold of him. The only question is can he pass as good as white but d rob already has a stronger arm
Tate's just as fast...
(please, please, please, let everyone's sarcasm meter work...)

my sarcasm meter works quite well, thanks for asking.
by the way, did you hear D-Rob is fast?
He's "about" as fast, but I didn't say that.
game fast?
track fast?
general footspeed fast?
highlight reel fast?
athletic ability fast?
ability-to-turn-his-feet-over-rapidly fast?
This is so confusing.
We're talking unicorn farting a rainbow fast.
As a recruit... DRob is better. Now will he be a better CFB player? That would be tough to do but possibly.
GO BLUE
I'm really high on Denard Robinson. Pat White was fast and elusive, and in the end improved his passing significantly by his senior year. I think Denard Robinson is a more compete package in that he has the elusiveness, speed AND is an established H.S. passer.
But man, Pat White was a one of a kind mobile QB. Better than Tommy Frazier. Better than JC Watts. Better than Jamielle Holloway. He just exploded football games.
If D-Rob can in any way emulate what Pat White did at WVU with fewer injuries, then the sky is the limit for UM offensively.
I'm sort of expecting D-Rob to be a much better passer than Pat White, however.
To steal a line from the old school God Father like Lloyd Carr, "it's possible but not probable."
D-Rob has a lot to prove. White has proven himself many times over.
"D Rob" is a couple inches shorter than Pat White.
both are listed at 6'
But when Robinson runs at full speed, the g-forces elongate his body and make him 6 inches shorter.
that doesn't make any sense
It elongates his body in the direction of his motion, which is perpendicular to his height, thereby making him shorter... unless, of course, he really leans forward when he runs, in which case, he becomes 12 feet tall.
Of course, if you meant that, while running at full speed, his acceleration is zero, and therefore no G-Forces to elongate his body, well... you got me there.

Me thinks you have interesting conversations with yourself.
Keyword there being "listed" :)
Pat White officially measured in at six feet at the NFL combine. I will just about guarantee that Robinson isn't that tall.
Well, I saw I pic of Denard and Tate standing next to each other at the spring game and Denard seemed slightly shorter than Tate. So if Tate really is 6'1" then Denard might be 6'

Any who has seen Tate around campus knows that he is most likely not 6' and definitely not 6'1". I would probaby put him in the 5'10" range.

Tate's listed at 6'1" and 187 on the spring roster. I can understand them adding a few lbs, but why add 3 inches in height? That makes no sense.

Again,
Pat White was listed by WVU as being 6'2". He measured in at six feet tall at the NFL combine. Teams do this all the time. According to people that have seen him up close, Tate is likely around 5'10" tall. Denard is likely around the same height. Neither are six feet tall.
Pat White ran 4.5 which is fast but not as fast as D-Rob IMO. D-Rob's speed in 100m is world class(when comparing HS Sr. of course). I know that 100m and 40 are two totally different but I doubt that Pat White can run that fast in the 100m dash.
What Pat White does best is he utilized blockers so he wouldn't have to expend a lot of energy trying to juke out or outrun defenders.
I think D-Rob is great, but I don't think he'll beat out Tate. He'll be used in special packages but Tate will get 90% of the snaps, so I don't think D-Rob will have a chance to be as good as Pat White. I think Tate will be the man for the next few years.

Deja Vu.
In watching D-Rob's highlights - he was being chased out of bounds or tackled by linebackers in HS. He maybe fast but he is not the most elusive guy that I've seen. I think that changing speeds while running is much more important than being able to run fast. I think that Tate might has a better grasp of changing speeds and the ability to read and follow blockers better than D-Rob.
Its like Mike Hart. He's not going to beat anybody in a race, which is why he got chased downfield a lot. But, there are very few HB's that were more effective.
that D-rob with carlos brown, gallon or even feagin be phased in as single wing look to complement forcier say by del state week. Then, Forcier could learn throwing parts of "the package" and screw with opposing DCs as the season progresses.
I don't think d-rob needs to be p-white. He probably needs to be put in good situations to have an impact this year unlike Tate who has practice time.
Tate ran for more yards in high school than DRob... totally not apples to apples, because there is such variance in team/competition/coaching skill, but worth noting.
Also, one ought to mention Gardner's rushing stats, as well. Those are just silly good for a QB (no 40 time listed)... again team/competition/coaching need to be considered.
denard didn't run the spread in high school so therefore alot of times he didn't get the opportunity to use his speed unlike tate in high school
That might be kinda cool.......a few gimmick plays or something. As long as they don't get injured simultaneously which would.....suck.

I was at the game when Kordel Stewart threw the Hail Mary pass in the final seconds. I've never seen that many people stand in stunned silence for so long... With our lack of depth at QB, I think the horror of both being injured in the same play early in the season would be much greater.

I have to say that I think this is a pretty good problem to have. We have one QB who lead the nation in HS accuracy and one who is probably the fastest QB in the nation. If these guys tank this year (which I really don't think will happen with either of them) then we at least have another guy (possibly more than that) coming next year. RR just has to figure out which guy gives us the best chance to win. I wish we could have had this problem last year.
April 14th, 2009 at 11:24 PM ^
It is a good problem to have. I still hope that RR decides to use multiple QB's. Good players need to be on the field. If he has a bunch of playmakers at QB, he might as well find a way to get them in. I think a "reverse wildcat" backfield with all QB's would be great a few times a game, too.
I think RR is still young and competitive enough that he would continue to try and trailblaze on offense and not rest on his reputation as the "Godfather of the Spread Option." RR may have a lot of creative years left in him. And wouldn't it be great to hear the words "UM football" and "creative" in the same breath among sportscasters?
I don't think anything having anything to do with UM football has been referred to as "creative" since Fielding Yost was there.

this is my first post..i've been lookin for a site like this and i love it.. on the topic..i ran track back in the day and i went to nationals and everything..and with DRob..there are two types of 100m runners..u either get out of the blocks fast and go or u are a top end guy..so what i'm getting at is you cant base a guys 100 time and tell that he's gonna be a burner on the fball field because fball fast is a lot diff. its in such short distances..and by looking at his highlights i see him as a top end guy..which means he may not break a lot in the ls to 15 yard..but if he gets an opening and gets past that 15 yl..he will be gone with his top end speed. im excited about this upcoming season.
When D-Rob ran that 10.28 at that track meet a couple of weeks ago, he was wearing full pads and a helmet...and just for shits and giggles he wore a 60 pound Navy SEAL rucksack.
for sure. That's Eric Crouch type speed!!
