OT:Offered tickets to Ohio game

Submitted by pdxwolve on

Yesterday, I was offered a ticket to go to the Ohio game over Thanksgiving. With flight, hotel, ticket, etc., it's probably going to set me back a few grand, which may be a drop to some of you, but I'm a teacher. On top of this, missing Thanksgiving with the kids and wife.

I have the go-ahead, and I can make the finances work. I would be going with some Ohio grads from out here in Portland. A few years back, I would have called this a no-brainer, but I'm curious what the board would do. I've never been to the horseshoe before (though I can't say it's on my bucket list), but with all the crap I've heard about going down there, I'm wondering if I should do it.

Would you do it?

Save the Money,  Go to a bowl game which is actually a once in a lifetime experience.  OSU game should be traveled to if it is a 2006 like experience or if it is convienaint.  If you are stacking moneycakes then go for it but for a percentage or two of your takehome, better to spend the time in a nicer location.  It is still november in Ohio.

Last summer, I went to the movie theatre which is across the street from the Horseshoe. That's the closest I've ever been to that stadium and it will remain that way. I have no desire to see ANY game there.

There are idiots in every fanbase. My girlfriend and I went to The Game this past year and got yelled at by a couple young michigan fans because we were driving a car with Ohio plates. I guess the both of us decked out in Michigan gear wasn't clue enough. It made me sick to see how much red was inside the stadium.

That's a lot of money when at this time we don't have any idea of how competitive UM will be this year.  Do you really want to see a game that is not competitive?

On the other hand, anything can happen in this game and you would be on cloud nine if UM won and well worth the money spent.

For two UM games and I hated every second of it. The majority of people are fine, but I would say there are way more fans who are willing to tell you/your kids to go to hell (and much, much worse).

We've been to the past 2 games in the Shoe and are planning to go again this year.  As someone else already said, you'll have the most issues outside the stadium before/after the game.  The 2011 game seemed toned down, likely due to Michigan winning the previous game in AA and some trepidation about losing consecutive games.  Once you're in the stadium, you may be surprised with relatively cordial treatment from fans.  Relatively cordial.

We live down here and deal with these folks year round.  When wearing Michigan gear around town, everyone has to say something.  Most of the time it's pretty benign, sometimes it's not.  I think it's worth experiencing at least one Michigan game in Columbus.  There's a lot of good cameraderie amonst the Michigan fans and, if you resist the urge to escalate bad treatment, you'll have fun.

Very polite. Actually seem like they went to college. Ohio fans are by far the worst. 50% at the game never went to school there. Just rude locals that hate UM to a point that they get confrontational.

Is I have attended games and live in Ohio and wear my gear all the time. Not once have I been shit talked or threatened. Sure I get the lame O-H thing to which I just laugh because it is the dumbest cheer ever.

The truth is most who talk of bad times or getting stuff thrown at them are probably dicks and talked shit. They were just to drunk to remember what a dick they were.

I went down 2 years ago for the basketball game and had several nice conversations.

Was wearing a Michigan coat and had a group of guys in their 20's dump beer on her for yelling out Go Blue after they screamed go bucks in her face. She was 65 years old at the time. Not one of the red necks anywhere near said or did a thing They are really sick fucks.
