Other Michigan Victories Today

Submitted by VCavman24 on

Lost in the excitement of Michigan's great win at MSU was other victories by Michigan teams today.

  • Men's tennis won 4-3 at 10th ranked Mississippi
  • #11 Women's tennis beat Virginia Tech 6-1
  • #5 Women's gymnastics beat 23rd ranked Ohio State 197.325-195.200 (that's a pretty big win)
  • #2 Men's gymanstics is currently leading #4 Stanford and #6 California in the Stanford Open

It's worth noting that gymnastics rankings are based on team averages.  The men's team is undefeated and returns an incredible amount of talent from last year's National Championship team.  They are very arguably the best team in the country.  Oklahoma is ranked #1.

Beat me to it!

Women's basketball plays tomorrow at wisconsin on MGoBlueTV. They're currently in 2nd place in the B1G.

Men's and Women's Tennis both play in early season tournament championship games tomorrow as a result of their wins today.

Rankings are a little stupid in terms of how they're determined but anyways, I think Men's Gymnastics will win the NCAA Championship again.

Sam Mikulak & Adrian de los Angeles = Trey Burke & Tim Hardaway, Jr. of gymnastics.

That was my intent, Wolverine Devotee, to beat you to the non-revenue sport recap!  I do have to disagree with your last comment though, Sam Mikulak and Adrian de los Angeles=Olympian Trey Burke and Olympian Trey Burke's only slightly worse twin brother Troy Burke.  Those two are spectacular.  1 and 2 at NCAA's last year in the all-around.

The average scores determine the current rankings, but it should be noted that Michigan's men competed last week without Sam Mikulak (training with the U.S. team in China) and this week without Stacy Ervin (training with the U.S. team here in the U.S.).

And they still won both group meets against highly ranked teams, giving guys further down the depth chart a chance to compete under that kind of pressure.

you talk about? My cave has been blocked off by snow and I haven't been able to get out much. However I do have a shovel and I will do whatever it takes to get such a TV program. May I ask where and how did you find such a TV?

EDIT. It turns out my son knew we had a shovel and dug us out while I was watching the basketball game yesterday. Then after my asprin started working this morning, I realized that I have the internet and found it on UM official website. Lords know I can't get enough UM Sports or news Thanx anyway..... Go Blue!!!

Ohio State hasn't had a very good women's gymnastics program over the last couple of decades, but it seems unlikely any Michigan coach has a better record against the Buckeyes than Bev Plocki. In her 25 years as head coach, she is 40-1 versus Ohio State.

Without going in depth into how gymanstics is scored, most simply look at the scores.  The scores go to three decimal places, which shows how small of margins can be the difference.  Women's gymnastics has four events, all particpated in by six people.  There really isn't that much of a difference in scoring, and since the scores can be so close together, winners and losers can be separated by thousandths of a point.  Many championships are won by far less than a point.  Subsequently, winning by over 2 points is a blowout when you see how close results can be and usually are.

And as a joking, snide side note, Malik McDowell went on his official only to watch Sparty lose. I am only joking, I have zero ill - will toward anybody because of their school preference, especially teenagers. I just thought it would be a funny comment.

According to the online ranking sources, Skip is a 5 star recruit out of Rapid city, MI. ESPN has him as a four star, due to his no-show at the ESPN scotch invitational. He has been recruited by Michigan Tech, Wisconsin, Minisoda, Green Bay CC, WMU and Southern Alabama A&M state, who was in the lead for Skip until a surprise in home visit by UofM. He weighs in at 125 pounds, which is ideal for his height of 5'3. Look for Magnus to give his insight on the young man. A fine addition to the class of 2019, which is only expected to take 3 jumpers in the class. Go Blue Skip! Congrats!
