The other football
On this day of much rejoicing over our football team, I thought a brief mention of our other football team (the kind with the using of the feet) would be in order. Michigan caps its regular season with a 4-2 win over Northwestern, bringing the season record to 11-4-3 (4-2-0).
The thing that really stands out tonight, though, is the play of freshman Soony Saad. Netting his 15th goal of the season, Saad now holds the all-time single-season Michigan goals record, scoring at just under a rate of a goal per game. If Michigan soccer climbs towards the top of the Big Ten in the coming years, it will be behind the thunderous foot of Soony Saad.

Do any of those guys want to try out as a FG kicker?

I think one of them actually did.

Pretty sure Justin Meram was one of the many backup fg kickers for our team for a while. He didn't have a ton of time to practice with the football team, and I know he's not on the travel squad. I saw him get a lot of playing time against MSU last week in the soccer game. I also believe he's a senior.

I certainly wouldn't be Saad if Soony can kick 39 yard field goals with any niblet of accuracy.

On a day when I went bowling due to our bowl eligibility, that is still the worst pun of the day. Well played. :)

Is Saad pretty well committed to the program? College soccer isn't well-known for its ability to hang on to its top athletes and keep them from going pro.

I don't know much about it, honestly. I know his older brother (Hamoody Saad, who also had a goal today) is a junior on the team, so hopefully that will help keep him around for a year at least. Also, Soony was the Something or Other HS player of the year his senior year, so he was basically the #1 recruit in the country. He could easily be playing for a powerhouse like Akron (that still feels weird to me to say), but decided to come play for the Blue instead. Hopefully that bodes well for his future with us!

Don't follow "futbol" much, but good to hear M has a strong team. Just can't get into a sport that can end in a nil-nil tie. I'm not sophisticated enough to enjoy the nuances of watching the ball get kicked up and down a field, or knowing what a yellow or a red card is. Though have to admire the craziness of the fans. Could you imagine the Big House filled to watch a soccer game? Though I think the field is too small right? Anyway, just rambling, Go Blue!!
