OT: Worthwhile article about the Husker's South Korean OL
Ran across this today; thought I'd pass it on. Another Big Ten team with an interesting character wearing #77.
He is not small.
I think I liked this article even more after watching that humor-falls-flat (IMO) gag news story about asian students not "getting" football.

"When Washington Huskies talked smack during Saturday's game to Husker guard Seung Hoon Choi"
Huskies: -LOOK OUT FOR THE SLANT!-

He should keep his mouth shut and just worried about gap integrity, 309 yards on the ground for NU in the rubber match, ouch.

How does the kid not flip out on the D-Lineman talking sh-t about his race?
Better yet, why are they even talking sh-t about race today? Its so 1960.

I am sure he dished it right back!

Everyone talks sh-t about race/your mother/etc on the football field. You're trying to get the other guy to flip out, take a personal foul, etc. The smart players know it and let their playing do the talking. The dumb ones get their Turley on.

yup!
My parents are Korean, and I was an OG in highschool (although nowhere near as big as this dude).
I would get shit talked about race all the time. Me and the center would just chop block the DTs afterwards.
Our center was actually a pretty dirty player; he would leg whip guys too for the hell of it.

If you think that's bad, you don't want to know some of the crap that goes on at the bottom of a pile.

Thanks very much for posting . . . I never would have read this article otherwise. This was a great fluff read.
Having spent 6 mo studying in Korea, there were some big dudes, and I could see this happening again. Maybe CRex can go on a scouting trip.

If you poke around you can find other articles on him, including one which the AP picked up, talking more about his family, their mystification over what he's doing, and his development as player. I loved this bit:
"[High School Coach] Farup said he simplified the offense for Seung, condensing it to two basic plays - run left, run right."
That's football even I can understand!

I played football in High School in Ann Arbor from '98 to '02 and people on my own team were making fun of me for being asian, so it's nothing new...

Why do you have to give me reasons to appreciate Cornhuskers?
...I'll still be in attendance and hope that we Denardize them...but part of me will want to see Big Choi perform well...

On this note, there's a pretty funny thread on NDNation mocking their own coaches' dumb public statements. This one from Bob Davie is a gem:
