OT: Women's World Cup: The Enemy; Japan v. England

Submitted by gopoohgo on

Japan are the holders (current champs, beat the USWNT last go around).

Japan ranked #4 in the world, England #6.

Japan is a possession team, especially in the midfield.  England is...I have no idea.

US should be a prohibitive favorite against either team.  5 straight shutouts, 1 goal allowed, with a much more fluid team since they changed to a 4-3-2-1 with Brian as a holding midfielder, Morgan up top, dropping Wambach.

There really isn't shit for someone who likes football, soccer (M.United start Champions League qualifying in August, Copa America isn't until the weekend) from June-August.

I like Japan.  They have great sportsmanship, and they are very good technically.  England is Cinderella, and their success is causing a lot of chuckles in England about the men's team.  I believe the US will beat either England or Japan, but I think it will be easier against England.  So, I'm torn - I prefer Japan to beat England, but Japan would be a tougher opponent in the final.  Well, you've got to beat the best to be the best, and so let the chips fall where they may.

best passing team in women's soccer, the better side, and the one I'd prefer to see us play. . . the U.S. women are also hoping to face them. We have played them in the finals of the last four women's world tourneys, all kinds.

The Allies took the first round last night.  Tonight, it’s Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin and Jaguar versus Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi; and it's fish and chips and a pint of ale versus sushi and sake. Can Japan deliver a "Sneak Attack" to the English side?  Can England "Keep Calm and Carry On?"

As an Arsenal fan, I've got a slight rooting interest for the Lionesses and Lady Gunners of England. From an historical standpoint, the United States Women's National Team will get either World War II Re-Enactment The Third or American Revolution Re-Enactment, Day-After-Independence-Day Version.

And I BELIEVE

If USWNT lose to either team, it'd be the 2nd straight year that they choke the title away from a lesser team. Anything less than a title will be a disappointment

If you told me that there was no Japanese word for "mistake" I'd probably believe you. Their team just never seems to make a bad decision.
