OT - Wings-Ducks Game 5/NHL Open Thread

Submitted by bacon1431 on

Game 5 tonight and I'm still nervous as hell! Best of 3 at this point. Go Wings!!!

Also, Carl Hagelin has a goal and two assists tonight for the Rangers, who lead the Caps 4-3 in the 3rd as they attempt to tie the series at 2 games a piece. BORK!

Unfortunately, this game is in OT. Which means to meet my expectations we need to win this game within the next 12 minutes

We have mostly evened the stats up. Idk what that means now, but at least we forced the issue a bit lately

I know it sucks to lose a game like that, but I disagree that we need to get D this summer. We got DeKeyser, he looks great, just got hurt, Lashoff is only 22 and is playing in his second playoff game, give him a year to mature and improve, and basically the same with Smith. After Kronwall-Ericsson, pretty much everyone is young. They have the chance to get better. Quincy--ok I can't defend (no pun intended) him. He should be good at this point in his career, or he should be gone.

Agree with all your points, esp. that Quincy need to be gone: he seems to be on ice for every blown defensive play => their goal--but let's hold off on the DeKeyser is second coming of Saint Nick stuff. He's only played a few games at this level & Smith, Laschoff, & other rookies D this year all looked super for first spell for some reason before coming down to reality of their youth & need to mature. I think they're good, & DeKeyser too, but he's going to come back to a young gun needing to mature same as they did.

I completely agree, pretty much across the board with you here.   I think Dekeyser will be great (no, not the 2nd coming of Lidstrom, not sure where the other responder got that from your post).   He was sorely missed in the past 2 games.   But I think some of these guys (Lashoff, Smith, even Kindl sometimes) are too young and not quite ready to take over.  So we need some older guys that can help teach and coach them while they bounce back and forth between GR and DET next season (a FULL season).   They haven't shown they're ready to be full time players at the NHL level yet.   It's just unfortunate we're in this situation right now, but it is what it is.

Get rid of Quincy and bring in 2 seasoned good defensemen.

It's sad to think a defensemen that has only been in the NHL since April 5, had that big of an impact not playing.

If Dekeyser was playing this whole series, it would be a much different story.  He's Excellent getting the puck out of the zone.  We missed that on the lower d pairings.

Back at it on Friday.  Must win.

Our defensemen our really, really bad.  The last five minutes of regulation and overtime looked like minor league play from those guys.

Not having Dekeyser hurts. Not having Helm hurts. And I have no idea why Tootoo is sitting rather than Eaves. They got him specifically to give the team the grit they were missing in the playoffs last year, so, let's play him in one out of our first five playoff games?

I watched Kindl a lot tonight, he is making huge mistakes. I said this from the beginning, this is going 7 .... Wings taking it in Anaheim.

Dekeyser, I miss you.

If the wings keep playing like they did in the last half of the 3rd and OT.  Piss poor effort late in the game.  Yes, the d-men were off, but the forwards weren't helping... they lost nearly every 50-50 puck race late in the game and in OT.

Working the next day sucks when you go to bed at 3AM all jacked up from a OT hockey loss. Bring back Toronto and the 401 rivalry as the Wings go back to the East where they belong!
