OT: What halftime shows do you want to see next year?

Submitted by MMBhorn on
Every offseason the Marching Band Director/Staff asks the current band members for suggestions for future shows. I don't have any suggestions that I'm particularly fond of this year, so I thought I would ask the MGOCommunity for suggestions. Basically what I need is a show title or "theme" and 3 or 4 songs that would actually be part of the show. I'm counting on you guys to come up with some good ideas, I'm tried to hearing how the band doesn't play anything good. EDIT: Of course, no guarantees that any suggestions will actually make it to the field, but I promise to propose them.

There were some good articles during the NCAA Basketball tournament about pep band moving out of 70s motown and doing Hip-Hop, etc. 'Lil Wayne, etc. Think Lollipop, Soulja Boy, etc. I don't know enough about arranging to come up with might be good. Also, a best of Detroit show, doing music from classic Motown to Eminem.

a medley of songs by the band muse. i think their stuff would translate fantastically well to the marching band and i'd like to associate them with michigan football.

1. Superhero theme songs - batman, superman, Super Mario (86) etc. 2. Cartoon theme songs - Animaniacs, Spongebob, Super Mario (86), TMNT, Simpsons, Family Guy 3. Redo that Monty Python show from a few years ago, that was the most badass marching band show ever, maybe this time add in some stuff about all of the West Virginian coaches being the holy grail? 4. Collection of stupid dance songs, Macarena, chicken dance, soulja boy, jump on it Most importantly, anyone who suggests La Cirque De Soilet (no clue how to spell it), please shoot them in the face

Redo the cartoon show from the 1990 season: Hanky Panky (could be left out) Jetsons Bugs Bunny Medley (including Loony Tunes theme and Kill 'da Wabbit) Charlie Brown Theme Under the Sea (from Little Mermaid) Best show we did my four years in the band. John Stout's arrangement of the Jetsons kicks serious @ss. There's enough cartoon stuff out there (as suggested above) to replace Hanky Panky. But seriously, go back and find the 1990 CD and listen to the Jetsons. I guarantee you'll want to play it (even if you're not old enough to know what "The Jetsons" is...).

Something funny. You know, something like Charleton Heston meets Elton John, or Brittany Spears meets Metal Church, or Peter Paul and Mary meets Rammstein...

FYI, within the last 4-5 years MMB has done: A saturday morning show with a video game song (mario, tetris, zelda, pacman - available on the latest CD, btw), a superheros song (superman, spiderman, batman, TMNT), and a cartoons song (scooby doo, jetsons, flintstones, looney tunes theme, etc) An animation domination show as mentioned above (family guy, simpsons, south park) I'd think it's still a bit too soon to redo those.

Istanbul would be sweet... I know they have a couple other songs that would work well, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment. I'll edit the post later if I think of any more.

cheerleader wardrobe malfunctions - wait better specify - female cheerleader wardrobe malfunctions. Music could be a cheesy porno soundtrack - that way they could not only be on theme, but also honor former AA news columnist Jim Cnockheart.
