OT: USWNT vs. England Pregame Thread

Submitted by xcrunner1617 on July 2nd, 2019 at 1:10 PM

USWNT plays England today at 3pm today on Fox for a spot in the finals of the World Cup!

Should be an exciting match, and I hope they can continue winning and representing the values and beliefs that have made America such a great country!

Also, for those that missed it, Sue Bird (girlfriend of Megan Rapinoe) wrote a great piece on the Athletic earlier today about today's match and her relationship with Megan.

Hmm the US team.  Megan Rapinoe.  Nike jerseys.  Soccer.  Seems kinda political to me.

Can't we just stick to talking about sports here? Shesh.

I think Crystal Dunn will need to play like she did vs. France. Much like France England's right side is very strong.

Nikita Parris is quick and dangerous on the attack and it will be up to Dunn to check her.

Lucy Bronze is considered to be the best right back in the world and is heavily involved in the final third. Rapinoe is going to have to track back and cover those overlapping runs. Bronze will also make in-cutting runs towards the middle to aid the attack while other midfielders drop back to cover for her.

EDIT: Starting roster just dropped and Ellis is going to start Press this game. I like this decision since Press is going to be fresher and is better defensively to cover the attack on the right side.

I am a little confused on the consistency on this site.  The Nike thread gets locked for being too political but this thread praising an article titled "So the President Hates my F*cking Girlfriend" is apparently not political?  Is it because the title of the thread is benign and doesn't highlight the article?  This thread is on the opposite side of the political spectrum than the Nike thread and one is up and the other locked.  Makes a person wonder whats up.

I don't know why you have to be combative.  Were my questions offensive in some way to you?  I don't see the problem in trying to figure out if there is a bias in the way this site is moderated.  I am fully aware that the people who own and are employed by this site swing left and that's ok.  I just don't like hypocrisy.

Well that is just not true if you have gone through all of my posts. I won't deny that I have written previous posts that are political in nature, but you will find that a large majority of them are just about sports.

But somehow that is justification for you call me out using profanity laden posts? I have a feeling that name calling has more to do with your points disappearing than simply changing your username to Trump.

Shit is typical here. Just like when Seth forced his political posts on us a couple years ago. All politics left and right should not be on this site. When you consistently allow one and not the other it becomes a clown show.

That is exactly my complaint.  I don't care if we are allowed to post political stuff or not, that is up to site management.  I do care when they seem to be blatantly allowing posts of one political viewpoint that they favor but locking/deleting posts from the other side.

US strikes first (Rapinoe's replacement - she's not in the lineup for some mysterious, unknown reason) from Press, then England responds.

US just scored, Alex Morgan, the birthday girl, makes it 2-1 US!! 32nd minute.
