OT: UFC 113 - If you watched, what did you think?

Submitted by MinorforPresident on

Overall not the best card in terms of names but some good fights and a couple of bad ones. Rua looked like he's returned to his Pride days in the demolition of Machida. Was very impressed with Belcher who is slowly working his way towards a title shot with another win or two. Kimbo just needs to quit MMA, period. He is awful and it's pretty obvious he can't overcome any type of adversity in a fight. As soon as he takes punishment he wilts. Probably the strangest fight though was Koscheck-Daley. The "phantom" knee, as they called it, was something because it cut Koscheck. Daley gets my award now for fighter I hate the most. I'm not a Kosheck fan but hitting soemone after the fight is ridiculous and Rogan was right - he could've very easily been in jail. July 3rd please get here - Lesnar vs. Carwin.

I was sitting at a table in hooters with a table full of Machida fans, I was the only one rooting for Shogun by knockout.  It sure felt nice to watch Shogon KTFO Machida.  Koscheck is a punk and deserved it honestly, but still you cant do stuff like that.  As far as July 3 and UFC 116 goes, im pumped for that.  Wanderlei Silva is my favorite fighter and is fighting that night on his birthday and Shane Carwin is my second favorite fighter.  It's going to be a great card, and to make things better, it's also the night of my bachelor party.  Going to get hammered and watch my two favorites win via TKO.

My quick thoughts.I was pumped for Rua just for the fact that i felt he was robbed in the first fight. Rua Came out and did what he had to. Just like Dana White says " don't leave the fight in the hands of the judges." And after tonights fight he looked solid. I will def. agree with you on Kimbo.

P.S. Machida drinks his own pee. Nuff said.

Josh was bleeding before the knee.  I would have liked to see that late punch knock that douche bag out.  Athletes have been known to lose composure.  Artest didn't spend any time jail.

I will agree that the punch after the fight was busch league but I have to say that I enjoyed it.  Koscheck is a douchebag.   His remarks after the fight weren't any more classy.  It was funny when he cried about getting hit with that knee.  Daley came closer to hitting himself on the follow through than he did to hitting Josh and as soon as he realized it he immediately looked to the ref to make sure he was looking.  If you get hit by a knee that hard the last thing you are going to be doing is immediately staring at the ref for 2-3 secongs before you go down to see if he saw it.  His nose was already cut as a result of a blow from earlier.  I cant wait to see GSP dismantle him.  I was also impressed with Belcher but I dont think he is anywhere near ready for a title shot with Silva like he was calling for post fight.

I agree with you on Belcher. I like the guy but he isn't ready for Silva. Having said that, I don't think anyone is ready for Silva.

The only guy in any weight class that I think could beat Silva is GSP. I think that would be the fight of the century and I don't know who would come out on top.

Koscheck's parents did not give him attention as a child. He seems to embrace the idiot role and i doubt he will give GSP any trouble at all.

Daley should be released by the UFC. This poses no risk and would be good pub for them. At this point Daley is not a threat at welterweight and anything he did with another promotion would be offset by the fact that he got worked by a top 5 in Koscheck.

Shogun looked awesome and applied a ton of pressure. Seems like that same style will be the type of fighter that beats Silva.

I've always thought of Belcher of 8-15 middleweight and I don't buy the hype about a title shot. He would get killed as he lacks elite athletisism. It was funny when Rogan had to clarify who he was talking about when he said 'I'm coming after you, you know who you are.' or something to that affect. LOL

Yeah, not a chance in hell Belcher can take Anderson Silva.  Agree with your sentiment on Daley to a degree.  While he can beat alot of guys in welterweight but at the end of the day, he cant handle the ground game and nobody does it better than GSP.  I see Koscheck having no chance against GSP, or anyone in else having a shot against him in welterweight honestly.

Yeah I don't think Belcher can beat Silva but I think he will get a shot in the near future. At this point who is really going to beat Silva at that weight? Guy is a phenomenal fighter but many more fights like his last couple and no one will want to watch anymore. What I'd love to see if UFC somehow sign Takanora Gomi and put him up against BJ Penn at 155 - now that would be a fight.

The card was uneventful, the Stout-Stevens fight was the best of the bunch IMO.  Kimbo is 36 and is relatively new to MMA, he just plain wears himself out.  It's a shame we don't get to see him in his mid 20's because it's evident he has so much potential.  Should have tapped with that kimora but was strong enough to overpower both Mitrione's arms with his one.  Damn shame.  Daley is a punk, but I can't wait to see GSP light Koscheck up!

in a long time.

Every fight was exciting.

Tom Lawlor looking like Dan the beast Severn was hilarious, too bad he punched himself out in the first round.  Lawlor is not a great fighter, but the guy is entertaining so I hope the UFC keeps him around on the prelims.

Good to see Marcus Davis get a win, probably saved his job.  He is not a contender, but a nice gatekeeper to have in the division.

Daley is a punk for what he did, and I think the punishment is right.  But KOS is full of it, that knee did not hit him at all and he was in a heap acting like he was shot (he used similar tactics to gain an advantage in the Rumble fight).

I'm not a Kimbo fan but the fight was entertaining and he looked pretty good till he gassed out.  The guy is a cash cow, so it was stupid to release after just one official UFC loss.  He'll go to Strikeforce and make them some money.

Shogun is the real deal, I figured he'd win, but damn did he destroy a guy previously thought to be unbeatable.  Can't wait for Shogun v. Rampage.

I love Koscheck. He's like a modern day WWF heel in MMA. Million Dollar Man was always my favorite wrestler. Koscheck is filling that void in my life in my (embarrassingly) older days.

With so much on the line (a TUF coaching stint and a title shot vs. GSP) was there any doubt that Koscheck would revert to "The Human Blanket" and lay-and-pray his way to the win? I am counting the days until St. Pierre puts him and his WWE-heel ass back in its place. Maybe Koscheck will have the guts to do more than advance position on the ground in that fight.

Shogun was damn impressive. It looked like he was trying to win and again Machida was trying not to lose. As with most sports, the former beats the latter.
