OT-Tigers, June 6th
The rubber match has already started. Bondo looking like the Bondo of old, giving up loads to runs to start the game. Lets hope he can settle down and give the offense a chance. If we lose, we'll go to 4 and 5 on the season vs the Royals. Currently the score is 1-5.

Everyone has been handling Greinke well enough this year. Meche has been just plain bad, when not on the DL.
The one that really burned my ass was Friday night. Bruce Chen is not a good major league pitcher by any stretch of the imagination. He tops out at about 85 mph, and he's very hittable. We should have shelled him.
The way this game is going, the only thing that can save us now would be the Royal's bullpen. So the Tigers still have a real good shot...Bannister is at 81 pitches through 6 innings.

The whole team has been about 3 shades of shabby today. There's no reason whatsoever we should have lost 2 of 3 this weekend.
I am sure Leyland will say this with a few F bombs in the locker room after the game.

Dombroski hasn't been to successful picking up Shortstops. I think the Renteria thing was worse
This isn't 1968 anymore. A Ray Oyler-type .135 for the season isn't going to cut it (and yes, the '68 team did have a starting shortstop hit .135 for the season). We're approaching mid-June. This was more than a slow start.
I think this is more important than people realize. Danny Worth is coming back to Detroit, and if I had to guess, they're doing this to give him a look with the next 5 years in mind. They originally thought Cale Iorg would be the shortstop of the future, but he has done nothing but fall flat on his face. Ramon Santiago is not a long-term answer. He's the kind of hitter that can play occasionally, but you don't want him at the plate much more than 250 times in a season.
If we had any competent catching in the minors at all, Gump Laird would be packing his bags as well.

cut him some slack the mounds were up an additional 10 feet or something, nobody could hit. You could bat .306 and win a Triple Crown
HIs OPS+ for that year was 20 (100 is average). If I'm reading that properly, he hit about 20% as well as the average hitter for that year. Adam Everett looks like Rod Freaking Carew compared to him, and Laird looks like Johnny Bench.
Bondo was looking so good lately that I picked him up on my fantasy team for a spot start. Should have known this is what would happen.

Ok MLB draft is upon us, I don't think the Tigers have a 1st round pick, so that sucks, no power armed pitcher coming our way.
I am really intrigued by Bryce Harper the Catcher from Southern Nevada, his stats are spectacular, Boras is his agent, is there any chance the Nats pass on him.

The Tigers did lose their 1st round pick because they signed Valverde, but they still have 4 of the first 100 selections. Would have had another one had they offered Polanco arbitration (I'm done beating a dead horse now). From what I understand there could be a nice crop of infielders for us to pick from this year. And I wouldn't put it past Dombrowski to find another flame-thrower, either.
The Nats might have to pass on Harper. That's going to be a lot of money paid out in back-to-back years on the draft for them.
According to a few different sources commenting on the draft, it's pretty much the top three (Harper, Machado and Taillon) followed by a lot of players whose value is looked at relatively evenly by scouts.....basically meaning this was arguably the best type of draft to not have a first round pick in.
Edit: I'd be shocked if they passed on Harper. Your point makes total sense but I'd still be shocked.The $15 million the Nats are going to payout to Strasburg as of 2012, is going to look pretty reasonable, if he is anywhere near as good as advertised.
