Interestingly enough, I've seen all 3 of his homers this year sitting on the same couch at my girl friend's house.
Marry her, and don't ever move from that couch please.
that there is a future here. Look for a clergyman named Laird and you will hit a home run.
So the middle three of the order gags in the 1st with two out, and Gump Laird of all people clubs a 2-run shot. Is there a full moon tonight?
So the middle three of the order gags in the 1st with two out
Perfect throw to 2nd.
Oops. That would be one hell of an accomplishment, wouldn't it?
Okay, fine. You got me. They gagged with two on instead. Better? :D
One more thing, slightly off-topic. The Marlins DFA'd Nate Robertson this afternoon. For those of you who don't know what that is, that's what we did to Dontrelle Willis.
pick Nate up?
How can it hurt? It is free, and we need a 5th starter.
But I kind of like it. The 'Gers need a lefty starter. If they can't make something happen via trade then I say go for it.
This is a joke right? Robertson sucks we got rid of him for a reason.
To keep Dtrain in the starting rotation?
Robertson has performed so much better than Willis did? Neither of them were/are the answer.
he still lives in Canton...
There's a reason we sent him away in the first place, and a reason the Marlins got rid of him when they had him for next to nothing. Think about that. The Tigers are paying his salary for the year and the Marlins still got rid of him. This guy's done. 5.47 ERA and a 1.495 WHIP in the NL. Say goodnight.
I get the feeling that if we go and get a pitcher it's going to end up being Ted Lilly.
Trade Santiago for Jiar Jurrjens. After all, Santiago is giving us more than Renteria did.
Scherzer looks good tonight. I only wish he could be consistent. It's frustrating watching him either shut the other team down or just get rocked.
To be fair, after his trip to the minors he's been pretty solid. Had 14 Ks in his first start back, and has given up 3 or less runs in 7 of his last 9 starts (will be 8 of 10 if this lead holds). I actually think he is turning into a nice little find for the Tigers, and a solid 3rd starter for this team.

It will still be 8 of 10 whether this lead holds or not, none of it would be charged to Scherzer.
Sub 2.5 ERA since his recall from Toledo. He's the least of our concerns in the rotation.
I........don't see too much of a grounds for a complaint from Boesch on that called 3rd. You can't take a pitch that close with 2 strikes. Not with the assholes we have a umpires nowadays. Ask Johnny Damon.
I'm watching the game on MLB.com, and according to their strike zone monitor that ball was a solid 6 inches away from the strike zone. I agree that he should be a little more careful about taking pitches like that, but it was clearly a ball to everyone but the ump.
6 inches would be inside the right handed batter's box, as I think those are 4 inches off the plate. I've seen guys called out on much worse than that. Hell, Tom Glavine made a career out of doing just that.
Either way, that pitch was too close to take.
I totally agree about needing to swing, but it was also clearly outside the strike zone. Glavine and Maddux were so reverred for their accuracy that they usually got those calls, and living in New York I've seen Andy Pettite get a number of those calls as well.
would make most southern girls happy.
Something's not right.....
Second time vlad has been buzzed near the head by Valverde in this seires. He did not look happy.
whew!
Never mind.
Great work from Scherzer to hold the Rangers down until the offense could put something together. Also, Laird?
Wow, was that Valverde or Fernando Rodney in the 9th? Glad they pulled it out though, Toronto's up next.
I was starting to wonder if Valverde had a blister.
