OT Tigers end of season stretch

Submitted by Rodriguesqe on

Do we still have time for one more Tiger thread? The season got interesting again recently. The Tigers got hot, then went into a deathspiral with seemingly half the team going on the DL. Somehow, they survived, are getting healthy, and the Tribe can hear some Cabrerra sized footsteps.

This year has been endlessly frustrating, but its pretty cool seeing Verlander back to form anchoring a rotation featuring seemingly three stud rookie pitchers. We all know about Fullmer, but Boyd had really come on strong, and oh yea, don't forget that Norris was the top dog before the the season which has been slowed with injuries. He's pitching ok too.

Fullmer had his first bad start since May last start and we need a return to form. Not just for the team, but he should be a stone cold lock to win rookie of the year. But the Yankees have a 23 year old of their own who just hit his 11th homerun in just 20 games. He's the toast of baseball and playing in New York he could steal the ROY vote even only playing 50 some games.

It will be a long time before I don't enjoy beating up on the Angels.

Out of the 30 games left 7 are against bottom dweller  Minn and 7 are against Cleveland which they are 4.5 behind.

So their fate are in their hands, no excuses.

The tribe have a brutal schedule to end the season. Four in Detroit and then three in KC. If they aren't up by 7 or more when they hit that I fear you could be right and either the Tigers or the Royals might catch them.

It would be nice if Cleveland lost their next two games in Texas. I was hoping Texas would sweep all four games. The Indians are real good at home. If they also manage to win a decent amount of tough road games, then we probably won't catch them. Though a wildcard spot is still a good possibility for the Tigers.

They've got to continue to beat up on the bad teams they have coming up, Fulmer looks a tad erratic today so the bats are going to need to back him up.

Very nice also to see Verlander having a vintage year and a glimpse into the future with guys like Fulmer and Boyd showing great potential.

on this team for a long while now.  He had a bad day today...  Just made himself look bad arguing that called strike, getting tossed from the game & calling the ump every name in the book.  Victor is better than that.

Before that Miggy took 3 straight strikes & complained.

McCann was the only one with a reason to bitch.

got a score update on my phone a little bit ago. I knew they were playing LAA but for some reason I saw BAL 20; DET 3 and had a mini freak out before I saw it said 'halftime' at the bottom. that was scary.

Fulmer's stuff looked poor tonight. Tigers have not been cautious with the rookie arm and he is hitting a wall. Inevitable.

It didn't look too promising after the Tigers had fallen to five games over .500, but they're back in contention.  There's a whole pack of teams in competition for the two wildcard spots.

Last night was a missed opportunity, but win today and the Tigers are still looking really, really good.

Anibal Sanchez and Tyler Skaggs today.  Tigers needs to put 6 runs up and handle the game offensively. With a little luck, they'll go into Monday's ChiSox series tied for the Wild Card and/or a game closer to Cleveland.

The Cleveland series matchups look pretty good for us:

Boyd (1.21 WHIP) vs. Shields (1.61 WHIP)

Norris (1.59 WHIP) vs. Ranaudo (1.63 WHIP)

Sale vs. Verlander

Losing a series to a team 20 games under 500 hundred at home when and getting shutdown by 2 pitchers with ERAs 5+ will haunt the Tigers.
