Game underway and Smyly looks pretty good for his first start. I think we'll need the bats to get going in this game though.
spoiler alert: i linked this
anyone got an online link?
Without fail, in every Open Thread, someone asks for a link. It's not hard.
Step 1: stop being lazy
Step 2: go to firstrowsports.eu or vipbox.tv
Step 3: choose your sport and find a link!
I'm sorry some of us aren't as smart as you are. Or some of us have better shit to do then troll the e-webz looking for sports links. Life we haz it
With how many open threads for games lately there have been, you would have to work to avoid seeing people who had already posted them
I don't spend a lot of time on MGo, so I have no idea what's been posted. Plus I run a Linux box and firstrow sports will only work with WINE and I refuse to use WINE. Windows == the devil.
I use Ubuntu and frequently watch nba games on firstrow. Occasionally links won't work due to a missing plugin or whathaveyou, but for the most part, I haven't had a problem. If you don't run Ubuntu, this may not be helpful but you might want to consider giving firstrow another shot.
That first inning was nerve-wracking but Smyly seemed to settle down pretty well.
Yeah, he was struggling to throw strikes in that first inning, but it looks like it was nerves. Since that inning, and aside from Pena's home run, he's been good.
And how about Cabby fielding that (albeit terrible) bunt and making the throw on the run?
because it was popped up, but once it landed it was a tough play and Cabby handled it well.
Smyly is nibbling way too much still. He needs to throw strikes and trust his stuff.
Yay, Tigers open thread. These seem to work in the exact opposite manner as liveblogs.
Smyly got out of the 4th with 86 pitches. Crazy to think Verlander was in the 9th with as many yesterday.
Smyly's not looking half bad for his ML debut. Wicked slider he's got.
Smyly is throwing a lot of pitches to get these outs. He looks like he has the stuff to be a good pitcher in the future but he definitely needs to settle down.
Good outting for Smyly. He made me Smile!
Smyly wasn't spectacular, but he wasn't terrible today. It would have been nice to see him get through the 5th, but I'm not disappointed that he didn't. He had low walk rates last year, so I wouldn't expect to see him walk as many batters as he did. I'm chalking it up to nerves. Despite that, he only allowed 1 run and still struck out 4. Definitely a good starting point to build on.
Now, it's about time for our bats to wake up.
I wonder if Tigers win today or Leyland blows it
I love that the idiots who blamed Leyland for pulling Verlander opening day are the same idiots who are blaming him for leaving Verlander in yesterday.
Can't win with those troglodytes.
Both were the right calls by the skipper.
Big time hit by Andy Dirks
Dirks making his case to stay on the big-league roster! 1-1 in the 5th.
Raburn making his case to not stay on the big-league roster. strikeout with a man on third and one out. =(
You don't see that every day.
Ha! Just what I was thinking. Were they expecting Detroit to call a squeeze with Raburn at the plate?
Reward Dirks' extra effort...
I hate Ryan Raburn.
He could really use a 2-out hit with a guy on 3rd for a confidence boost at the plate.
My fantasy team could also use this.
THERE YA GO!! Great hit... way to make them pay for those shifts!
That was the exact same swing on a very similar pitch from his last at-bat. The only difference is that in his previous at-bat, the left-fielder was able to get to it. That's a really good sign though, when he's taking those pitches on the outer half to the opposite field. He'll come around eventually.
Happy birthday Boesch!
Boesch! Atta baby!
Also, the commentary before the hit was tremendous. Go shopping at The Gap for a birthday 2-run double.
Dude, Avila's the boss.
That's for all the BG fans...
Good Job by the Rays to get Young at second.
Balester has looked good outta the 'Pen
Looks like you forgot to knock on wood.
Double play baby! That's huge
Damn!, I was hoping for a triple play =(
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we acquire Dotel to pitch the 7th inning?
Pena was surprised because the Rays SS is never positioned where Peralta was
Raburn got lucky. And he still sucks. But I'll take it.
I'll take it from Raburn, I was worried about a dp
Do it again, Brennan. Come on, son!
clutch hitting by Boesch. Now lets close this out bullpen.
Can it be his birthday every day?
More like Brennan BOSSch... [I know it was bad]
3 outs away
Way to find the gap.
Prince just scored from first. That has to be a career first for him. Also, the Rays' right fielder took a horrible route to that ball. I'll take it though!
No save for Papa Grande today.
Saves opportunities are likely to be down with this O. He can still do his victory thing even if it's celebrating a 5 run victory
Good start to the 2012 season. Rays are a good baseball team and it's nice to take the series. Smyly performed pretty nicely filling in for Fister.
Nice win. Bullpen looked good, overall. Man, we just went 5-1 against the BoSox and Rays.
After a tough loss yesterday, the Tigers bounce back. Well played game, and nice job by Boesch. Solid debut by Smyly as well.
As long as the Tigers play well on the road like they did last year, this may be a very, very exciting season.
Was at the game today, boy oh boy that first inning was shaky. Avila came out to talk and give Smyly the ball and Drew dropped it and looked very nervous but fought through the rest of the inning without a run. Happy birthday Brennen Boesch, he had some monster hits today especially with Miggy not having his best game. Fun day for baseball with perfect weather, hopefully they can stick it to the south siders this weekend.
P.S. Getting over 30,000 people to CoPa for a Thursday day game is pretty impressive, keep that payroll up and competitive boys.
