OT?: Slippery Rock is also undefeated this season
A continuation of a great season for Slippery Rock!
The Rock improved to 7-0 overall and stayed atop the PSAC West with a 4-0 mark in the division.
No. 8 Slippery Rock | Previous: 10
It took a little bit for the Rock to get rolling — Gannon actually exploded for two quick, very long touchdown runs to start the game 14-0 — but it was all Slippery Rock after that. Kyle Sheets erupted for 134 yards and three touchdowns. The Rock has a big matchup against Cal (Pa) coming up this week for first place in the PSAC West Division.

"In 1959, Michigan Stadium public address announcer Steve Filipiak laid the groundwork for years to come when he started to include Slippery Rock in his list of out-of-town scores. Filipiak didn't just go through the motions when it came to the Rock. He made the SRU score a big deal in Ann Arbor as his infectious enthusiasm for the unknown school with the fun name captivated crowds, some 100,000 people at a time. Michigan fans not only developed an affinity for the Rock, they adopted the DII school as their own."

My mother was a sophomore that year and was at the game it was first announced. She remembers people standing there with puzzled looks after Slippery Rock's game score was first announced. She says each time the score was announced, more people cheered.

I went to games as a kid with my dad, a 1947 grad, back in the 70s. Everyone always got a kick out of the SR score and I didn't get it until years later. Now the experience makes me smile and it's cool that tradition still exists today.

It was one of the most exciting moments of the game, just in terms of crowd engagement. Back in the mid-80's, the PA announcer played it for high drama, and the crowd ate it up. A great Michigan tradition.

Entirely NOT OT. This is great news!!

Does anyone know when or why we started announcing the score of the Slippery Rock game at Michigan stadium? I can remember going to games when my brother was in school (late 60's) and even back then it was a "thing" and everyone got very excited when the stadium announcer updated the score of their game, usually early in the 4th quarter of ours.
EDIT: So ugliEric posted the answer to my question literally as I was typing it.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

For those of us from Chicago around the time of Ray Rayner any mention of Slippery Rock takes me back in time.
Were off to cuddly Dudley's House...
Magic Door was next.
Was Ray a slippery rock grad or Michigan Man/Fan?
Google is my friend:

Ray Rayner every morning before school (don't forget Chalveston the Duck). Apparently Ray was quite the carouser who spent his share of evenings on Rush Street.

Gotta Love the PSAC. Slippery Rock, California (NTC) and Indiana (NTI)!

Sadly, California University of Pennsylvania has rebranded. PennWest California is, if anything, more confusing? It sounds like a bank that serves small businesses and startups in Walnut Creek or something.

Cal, Edinboro and Clarion are the combined West Penn..... each retains their own sports programs which stay under the original name... but the alums hate the change. everyone always hates change.
West Penn sounds like it should be Ivy league or a prison.....

Meanwhile Biff Poggi’s team is 1-5 but apparently he was the key to last year’s success here and wears cool cutoff sleeveless shirts and says the Pledge of Allegiance at meetings.

Do ya like that side boob? Well you shouldn't, because that's my side boob.

That is shocking based on how much he imported from Michigan. Maybe he can't make it work and comes back! I would be fine with that. Still hoping him success at Charlotte

Why all the Biff Poggi hate? Also, I don't see how struggling in your first year as HC (at a program that fired its previous HC midseason last year after a 1-7 start) seems to suggest that he couldn't have had an impact helping Harbaugh turn things around/get his mojo back...

Slippery Rock is never OT.

But will they be undefeated after this weekend?

Here's the half time show for the game in 1979 (Sep 29, 1979) when Slippery Rock played Shippensburg in the Big House.
That's the Amoeba Band (high school bands and the MMB) I'm somewhere in that picture playing the trombone (MMB). I think mid-left sideline where the darker uniforms are.

I thought I was too cool for band my junior year and missed that.

Did Slippery Rock win the game?!

No, unfortunately they didn't. We cheered for them though.

Like XM mentioned earlier: nearing football Valhalla.

Got my half zip Slippery Rock sweater a couple years ago. It's a great looking piece of gear.
Whenever I wear it I know a true blue, going to games person when they remark about my sweater. TV fans are unaware.
