OT: Saturday night tell me what to drink drinking thread
Like Justice Kavanaugh, I like beer. I am familiar with the options.
And though I am not exactly an oenophile, I know what wines I like.
But now I am an old man and it’s time to expand to the hard stuff. What should be my drink of choice? Suggested brands would also be helpful, especially if it’s not top-shelf stuff that will bankrupt me.
Preferably no mixed drinks, either. Keep it simple.
And on that note, what are you drinking?
Plus 1 for a great opening line.
Gentleman Jack
Murphy’s stout and my sorrows away
Costco had a nice port on sale yesterday.
I tried to get into ports. I really liked tawney 25 after a steak dinner. The only problem is that at home, if you drink one or two, the bottle doesn’t shelf well. Anyway, for the last drink it’s the best drink.
Hot days like today - Gin and Tonic. More specific, Long Road MICHIGIN & Tonic.
Good tequila burns clean. Me? I’m drinking Albariño.
Nanclares Coccinella
Sipping on some Larceny Barrel Proof. Not for beginners. For bourbon, try Evan Williams white label with a little water or an ice cube.
Evan Williams Bottled in Bond (the white label) is surprisingly pleasing for what most would consider a very pedestrian brand.
No one is going to confuse it with top shelf stuff, but if you're just getting into bourbons and don't want to break the bank, it doesn't suck.
Locally distilled vodka and fresh squeezed lime juice with a splash of tonic.
Irish whiskey tends to be relatively innocuous since it's triple distilled. So I'd recommend something like Jameson Caskmates which is Irish whiskey aged in beer barrels. You can pick between stout, IPA, etc. If you are big into beer, that may be a good segway.
If you like wines, a nice wine finished rye may have some fruit and spice that you'd enjoy. It's worth trying both. My favorite is whistlepig old world, but it's a little pricey for a rye. There are plenty of ryes distilled by mgp in Indiana that get barreled by smaller distilleries in all kinds of different used wine casks. So feel free to look around the liquor store for one. You can typically spot an mgp rye because the label will have to say distilled in Indiana.
Good luck, it's a wonderful world you're about to explore.
Dareringer Rabbit Hole bourbon.
Blantons STFB, 2016 Birthday Bourbon, Blantons Black label. so far...
Reposado Correlajo Tequila.
Drank too much last night so taking the day off. But buffalo trace is surprisingly nice for the price.
Blanton’s with a large spherical Ice cube, orange peel rubbed along the edge of the rocks glass
Bourbons
New Riff single barrel
traverse city barrel strength
elijah craig barrel proof
