I haven't looked at the numbers buying him out most likely saved some cap space compared to burying him in the minors.

I feel like Abdelkader has been there for decades...I haven't payed attention to the wings that close in a while but man, what a huge amount of money for a guy that age.

I like the guy as a human being. He once handed me an ice cream bar at a charity event. A few years later, he signed copies of his book for my nephews.
He has a sense of humor. He flew over Michigan Stadium with the Blue Angels (Thunderbirds?) and made the obvious joke.
It sounds like his speed wasn't enough to make up for other deficiencies.
I do trust Steve. I don't think I have seen anyone that can be more intense, more focused, and more friendly in the same breath.
