OT: Pitino Sues Louisville...

Submitted by Robbie Moore on

For $37 million. Claims breach of contract. Is there a bigger DB in sports? Can't the man just go away and count his money??

Rick Pitino is THE scum of the earth. I am so disgusted with him. Pitino is a greaseball in every possible sense. I hope Louisville holds strong and doesn’t pay that bastard a dime. Fucking prick

Off topic (I think) Just read that Matt Lauer is asking for 30M to exit NBC.  Dave Brandon wants $???M.  Pitino.

Things seem to be so fucked up at times.

Excuse my language, but seemed appropriate.

Well when your reputation has been irreparably destroyed and you know you will never coach again, why not? What do you have to lose?

Doesn’t make it right, but I get why he’s doing it. When you’ve got nothing, you’ve got nothing to lose.

Just filing a case and trying to negotiate some $$$ is low risk. He does have little to lose if that's as fas as it goes.

Actually pursuing a lawsuit is another story. He's rich, on the right side of prison bars and has a family. He does have a lot to lose. A trial would be expensive. If Louisville is willing to fight him in court, they might as well also file a countersuit which could be for a lot of $$$. That's exactly what I would be exploring if I was working for UL. There would be possible perjury exposure. Expecting him to be truthful under oath is a bit much. Then there's all the publicity a trial would bring. It wouldn't be fun for his son or the rest of his family.

Wouldn't be fun for his family?

You're probably right, but I can't imagine going through a trial would be any worse for his wife than hearing about him railing a waitress in a restaurant bathroom and subsequently paying for her abortion.

Compared to that, this would be child's play.

Stupid Stupid Stupid.  Pitino will not be able to stand the discovery in this case.  Louisville lawyers will have every incentive to justify the firing by documenting every single crappy thing Pitino did - and there will be lots of them.   He'll try to keep it all sealed up but UL is a public university and I would think a judge would be unlikely to enter a restrictive protective order.  If discovery proceeds, it will be quite a show.  Can't wait.

Mmmm Hmmm

Is he sure he wants to go through discovery on this? That puts all of his alleged recruiting issues (and his staff’s) in the scope. I’m not too sure he wants to be deposed or wants his assistants deposed about what he knew.

As a Michigan fan who was unfairly cheated out of a National Championship at the hands of Louisville and Pitino, I want this to happen.

I want them to drag each other's names and deeds through the mud in public to the point where Louisville will be ashamed to admit it ever played basketball, and the mere mention of Louisville's "National Championship" will elicit mocking snickers on the level of Barry Bonds' home run title.
