OT: Phil Mickelson tied to million dollar money laundering and gambling
http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13166711/nearly-3-million-transf…
I thought Mickelson was cleared last year by the DoJ... guess not.
This would be posted by Born Sinner.........Ironic I would say.
Phil has apparently had an issue with gambling. At least he can ante up for payment of the losses.
Go Blue!
Just challenge Jordan and Chuck B to a high stakes 18. Problem solved.
And also ask Pete if he wants to play, as I bet he will.
Don't follow golf, so that was news to me. Random wagers in the player's lounge and PGA reprimands are not a good sign.
I am betting this doesn't get nearly as much media coverage or vilification as Tiger has the last few years.
A-people like Phil, whether it's genuine or not, he signs autographs, talks to regular people and the media and generally isn't a dick like Tiger (who I actually am hoping makes a huge comeback, so don't misunderstand), and B- gambling is no bid deal, especially in an individual sport like golf
Not to mention Tiger is in a league of his own when it comes to greatness and popularity compared to Phil...
Just google "Figjam" and "Mickelson" and get back to me about Phil not being a dick.
It might be immoral, but it's not illegal, unlike money laundering.
So make sex illegal and allow money laundering? That's an . . . interesting take.
That was what, three of four years ago? At this point, the vilification has gone waaaay overboard.
due to his private life from 5 years ago or the fact he's no longer got any game. At this point, it's the latter.

EDIT: Double post - Delete Me Arrgh.

I always wondered if Lefty was his golf nickname or mob nickname.
If so, only for himself to win?
Who gives a shit as long as Phil never bet against Phil in golf. Hell - unlike baseball where the outcome of one game (pitchers especially) can influence the next - each tourny is played in a virtual vacum so if Phil bet on himself to win I have zero issue with it. Hell - if anything he's putting his money where his mouth is (so to speak).
Howeva.....if the gentlemen he's being tied to bet against Phil and Phil owed them money it's a very big deal. My question though is if you've made 77MMM what in the living fucking hell do you need to gamble for anyways?
man.. the rush.
Interestingly enough, Phil's off the course habits seem to coincide with his habits on the course. It's pretty rare to see him lay up and as such he's been quoted...

Who cares? if he were a politician he'd get promoted.

Since Fall 2009
So if he gets banned for a year and sent to play another sport like the great MJ, what would he do? Pro Bowling League? World Series of Poker? Viagra commercials?
Mansierre! Hey, sometimes men need a little support, too...
Guys with his body shouldn't wear shirts like that. Wonder if he looked in the mirror that morning before heading out on the course.
The Barklay's marketing department must be SO proud....
Amy Mickelson on the left, Elin Woods on the right, now that is a double bogey you wouldn't mind.
The left-handed golfer is known for rarely shying away from a money match, and his affinity for sports gambling is no secret, either. In 2001, he was reprimanded by the PGA Tour after winning $500 from Mike Weir in the players' lounge at the NEC Invitational: Mickelson had wagered $20 at 25-1 odds that Jim Furyk would hole a bunker shot.
For some reason, I remember hearing about this back then but not thinking about it much at the time. As the article says though, he's put down larger sums on the Super Bowl and other events - it would be interesting to know exactly what the Tour's rules are in this area though, betting on sports that aren't yours.
Hell, FIGJAM's money games in practice rounds still go on and aren't exactly a secret. One reason he and Keegan Bradley wanted to play Ryder Cup together (and did) was they regularly played together in those practice rounds.
And in the old days of the tour hustling on the side with money games was really common, since they didn't exactly make massive amounts of money the way the top guys do now.
Never been a fan of Phil. Guy needs to wear a bra.
"Article" has click baity title, picture and caption as per ESPN policy. Mickelson hasn't been charged and is not under investigation and as mentioned before is well known to gamble a lot. Not much to see here. Moving along.
Golfer's never forget a debt, apparently.
But yeah, not a huge shock that Mickelson has some issues with gambling. I don't follow golf much, but I'd heard stuff like this before about him.
I'll bet you $1000 that Enbrel will help your symptoms too. If I win and you refuse to pay up, my buddies Vito and Rocky will pay you a friendly visit."
Didn't F.I.G.J.A.M. bet and win a couple mill the first time the Ravens won the Super Bowl? For some reason I thought his wife's family had ties to the ownership.
Because, historically, gambling was run by the mafia who then used the money they earned to do attrocious things to other people.
Nice of you to completely drag on Tiger for somehing that has nothing to do with him ..... and you shouldn't dismiss the negative societal effects of gambling - Phil Mickelson is just as bad of a guy in my opinion.
This is America. We care more about people's personal lives than white collar crime. Duh.
I'm surprised people still defend Tiger Woods. I once thought A-Rod would be the best MLB player ever. I also predicted multiple NC's for Lane Kiffin at USC. Wrong and wrong. Sometimes you pick the wrong guy. Fess up and move on with life.
