OT - New Years Eve

Submitted by Mattavious on

Can anybody tell me if there is anything going on in downtown Ann Arbor for New Years Eve?  My wife and I will be in Ann Arbor and we were hoping to go to a block party like they had last year but I am not seeing anything.  Best thing I can find is a couple of clubs/bars hosting events or Webers hotel.  Thanks in advance!

I went once 10 years back during freshman year of college (may be it was an 18 and over night if they don't allow that all the time).  It seemed to be a lot of creepy older guys hanging out at the bar looking to buy drinks for under 21 year old girls.  It helped getting some of my lady friends booze, but it just in general creeped me out.  I have heard that the gay night is actually pretty fun regardless of orientation as long as that's a scene you're comfortable with.  What that place looks like on NYE, I have no idea.

I'll be hungover like shit from the previous 24 or 48 hours.

I plan on just sitting watching football and staring at recruiting rankings. It will be glorious.

When I was in law school, one of my friends sliced her foot open pretty badly at Rick's. We thought she probably needed stitches, so took her to the ER. When she told the resident on duty what had happened, he recoiled with visceral disgust and basically suggested that there were probably not enough tetanus shots in the world to counteract what one might contract from the floor of Rick's.

It's New Year's Eve and not "years," but that is the most overrated night throughout the year. Yeah, I like to have fun with friends that night, but it's just ridiculously busy at every bar, which is why lately I have been enjoying large house parties with all of my friends.

The Weber's shindig is kind of pricey but my wife and I have done that in the past and it was pretty entertaining. We're local though, so we were able to do the dinner and party, which was something like $200, if I recall correctly. I would have to think it is about double that if you're looking to stay the night.
