The leafs are without a doubt a top 5 all time NHL franchise. Lions ? Top 25 maybe.

Prior to the SB era, the Lions were actually a respected franchise. Then all of a sudden WCF happened and it was down hill from there.

The Lions last won a championship in 1957. They have won 4 total since their founding in 1930.
The Leafs last won a championship in 1967. They have won 13 total since their founding in 1917, all of those in an era when the NHL consisted of six teams.
I think the comparison is reasonably good. The Leafs were clearly better at their peak, but the NFL was always a bigger league and had a bigger pool of people to draw talent from.

Toronto has won the second most Stanley Cups all time, so I’m guessing they’ve had better moments in history associated with the franchise.
