OT- The Jeep Wave
A buddy of mine owns both a Jeep Wrangler and a Mini. He claims both owners of Jeeps and Minis give unique waves to the other owners as they drive by. My question is -do any of you own Jeeps or Minis and do you participate in the waves? If so do you keep score?
Buddy of mine has a Wrangler and whenever we'd go somewhere in it and passed another Wrangler, probably 9 times out of 10 there was a wave exchanged.
FWIW, I never noticed anything "special" about the wave itself; basically seemed in line with the "hey thanks for letting me in/merge/turn" wave.
Also FWIW: This was many years ago as my buddy has lived in NYC since '05.
back in the '90s, and I noticed the wave was far more common in summer when top/doors were removed. I miss that vehicle dearly, though the fuel economy was... poor.

I don't own a jeep, but very very few motorcycles pass each other without waving. It makes my day when someone on a moped has figured this out, waves to me, and I just sail past him/her without eye contact.
Mopeds don't count.
In Britain, a moped is pretty much considered a motorcycle.
In Soviet Russia, moped ride you.
Apparently there is a long-held tradition for owners of Jeeps and Minis signal to each other with The Wave, shouting "Strength through discipline, Strength through community, Strength through action!" Then they're supposed to key all cars that are not made by BMW or Chrysler.
I don't care how many -1's I get, but that is a fantastic reference.

I had an old CJ-7, and quickly learned it was polite to give at least a couple fingers up as an acknowledgment of you and your fellow Jeep owner's good taste as you passed.
The minis are just yuppie poseurs.

Mine was a Franken-Jeep.
Chevy 350 CRAMMED in under the hood with a big 4 barrel deep throat carb,
side pipes, huge tires, the works.
It was built for dune racing (not by me), but I used it as a daily commuter and for occasional vineyard hopping (til I'd break something).
I never forgave Jeep for ruining the fun with all the over-the-top safety additions of the Wranglers. For me, the CJs were the last true Jeeps.
Mine was a '95. The CJs were so much cooler.
A buddy of mine with a wrangler always did it and I thought it was pretty cool.
Unfortunately I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee, so I try to wave to other JGCs. So far no one has responded

I drive a Cherokee. I have had a few waves, and I always wave back. I never realized it was Jeep related. I just thought they could sense how rad I am.
+1 for using the word "rad", I haven't heard that since like the 6th grade.
I figured it would be pretty bogue of me to not wave back.

yeah, i concur. had a gsxr750 and a wrangler in the early 90's. Both of which had the courteous wave whenever you passed another jeep / motorcycle. Can't remember how many times I left the top off and rain came in. pull the plug and head to the car wash to vacuum the rest of the water. Great way to clean the carpet.

A '75 Fiat Spider, and all the other guys and I in cool little two-seat convertibles would wave to each other as we drove by.
Seriously, this all started with Corvette drivers in the '70s and i is getting a little old.
Pretty soon soccer moms in mini vans will be scissoring each other as they pass by (of course, they'll first have to put down their cell phones, eyelash curlers, Big macs, and cigarettes).

i dont think its only jeep and minis. i recently bought a audi and passed some dude on the express waved to me but i might be wrong maybe he was just trying to signal something to me who knows
