Its probably 4 or 5 years too late, but, they are going to free up over $20 million in cap space after this year. Is Joe D. setting things up to make a run at Lebron James?

I approve of this message. I was never a fan of Billups. In the playoffs he tries to put everything on his shoulders and just chucks up 3s whether or not he has the shot.

Billups is done. I love the man for being a great player for us, but his best attribute was being able to hit clutch shots in the playoffs, and I feel like he hasn't done that the last couple of  years. When you combine that with the fact that he looks slower and is easily beaten off the dribble by quicker guards, I think moving him for something of value was a great idea. Just the fact that Iverson will be off the books after this year makes this worth it even if Iverson doesn't play. Stuckey is the man and is better than Chauncey now. I love McDyess too, but I think at this point, both Amir and Maxiell are better than him. If Iverson does anything on the court, it will just be that much more of a bonus. Dumars is a genius. Too bad he can't run the lions.

I said "terrible idea", however, Joe D. has pretty much earned the right to never be questioned when he makes moves like this.

So I'm not sold that it's a good idea.  But I trust Joe D. 110%.  They must feel like Amir, Maxiell, and KB are good enough in the paint.  I know they think the earth, moon, and stars of Stuckey, and I can't wait to see him grab the starting job.

When I read this, it made me feel like a 14 year old girl who just slept with a senior...it might have been a mistake.  it hurt a little.  but i know it will change everything

This is a very interesting move.  On the surface it seems kinda painful to depart with Billups, who turned this franchise around from the depths of hell, and McDyess who seemed to truly love being here.  However, Billups was gonna hurt our cap for the next several years and his value was only going to decrease until he gets to his final year where he'll be come "Billups expiring contract." McDyess may get waived by Denver and actually end up back with the Pistons for a very low cap #.

Allen Iverson, on the other hand, is still a beast even though I've always wished he was never on my team.  He can be a ballhog and he may sulk if he doesn't get enough minutes or shots.  That said, if he truly wants a run at a championship he may be one of those guys that falls in line and does exactly what he has to do to win.  I don't know how I feel about Rasheed and AI in the same locker room, they may do more harm together than either could do alone.  But overall, this clears a ton of space in the offseason and still gives us the same shot at taking it all this year as we had yesterday.

Wow, I don't know what to think of this, but I trust Joe D.  I was kind of excited about Curry's new offensive-minded scheme and thought we could make a good run with that.

Also, I think a Chauncey/AI backcourt would have been better than Rip/AI.  I guess we'll just wait and see.

Otherwise, perfect move. Is Samb part of this trade too? I caught a small blip on the ticker that said something to that effect, but I can't verify it yet.

He got a few minutes last season but got injured and then spent a lot of time in the developmental league. Big body, some athleticism, but a long way from being any sort of impact player. Unless he progressed quite a bit recently, his role probably would have been limited to being deep on the bench and coming in for some fouls on Dwight Howard. Not a great loss for the Piston, IMO.

You know what, earlier I said terrible trade.  I take it back now that I think about it.  Especially if we can get Dice back.  That'd make it Chauncey for Iverson, straight up, forget about Samb.  Chauncey's always been one of my favorite Detroit athletes, but who wouldn't make that trade?  Boston better watch it.  AI doesn't have that ring.  If it's Game 7 and AI has the ball and he thinks the Celtics are in his way, it's on.
