OT- Iditarod Race

Submitted by marat0044 on
Hey there, If you guys are in off season mode searching for some great competition, check out the iditarod. The 1100+ mile dogsled race started yesterday. It's the superbowl to most of us Alaskans. The only thing that sucks about this years race is that Sarah Palin is the spokesperson. The rest is cool. http://www.iditarod.com/

Is Robert Sorlie racing this year? (I own a signed and framed print of him mushing his dogs over the national iditarod historical trail) Also, who is the local favorite this year?

not that I see. The local favorite in my house is DeeDee Jonrowe. She's the one that has pink booties and harnesses on her dogs in support of breast cancer awareness. (she is a survivor of it as well) The CEO of my company bought a puppy from a Jonrowe litter. Oh my goodness, that puppy is CRAZY with energy. Her husband was telling me how they are trying to get the dog interested in hunting, but it looks like he'd have enough energy to pull their truck to the hunting spot before they even go out. Lance Mackey has won the race the past 3 years and appears in many local commercials as well. There is a "no drugs" policy enforced for the first time this year as well. Mackey is on record for firing up a doobie a few times out on the trail. How cool would that be to burn one in the middle of no where with the northern lights all around? haha..

and I've always had a thing for huskies; but Oh my goodness, that puppy is CRAZY with energy. Her husband was telling me how they are trying to get the dog interested in hunting, but it looks like he'd have enough energy to pull their truck to the hunting spot before they even go out. Huskies are NOT hunting dogs. Most just want to run.

I'm new to this sport. Are there limits on how many hours per week a dog sled team can practice? I'm not going to get emotionally involved in a sport without multiple layers of rules and maximum ambiguity.
