Someone associated with the show said that each episode would have the same run time as a feature film. ~77 minutes. So much for that.

Fishgoblue has it about right in terms of what to expect. Although those first two run times feel like something may have been cut out under HBO’s new ownership.

In simple terms, it’s the medieval world if its fantasies actually existed, like dragons, direwolves, and various forms of sourcery. As for stories, basically Winter is coming in the form of a massive army of the undead led by the products of a catastrophic mistake made long ago. In the front lines against it are the two surviving descendants of a family with a mystical link to dragons, one of whom knows of her heritage while the other does not. Surrounding them are a cast of characters who have survived seven rounds of death and treachery, most of whom will probably die.

There's like 68 episodes of GoT heading into the final season. And I haven't watched all of them from the start. Just the last four years. To keep track of character growth and development, you really do need to see certain seasons because the actors who play these parts actually have grown and matured in time with them.

So, from that standpoint, you should go back and take a look to see how certain storylines have progressed. Of course, there are certain epic episodes in the series like the Red Wedding and maybe the last three episodes from last year that are just must-see for their own sake.

Noticed that too.

Also Arya is running for her damn life in the crypts of Winterfell in the first trailer. She hasn’t been afraid of anything like that the entire series. Wondering if the walkers will raise the dead Starks to spook her the hell out like that.

I think the Arya run is just promotional... just a hunch.

What I did pull out of the trailer is that Winterfell is getting destroyed episode 3. Which leads me to think that Cersei's tears, drink in hand, are because Jamie has died.

we need to make a GOT prediction thread:

Who sits iron throne, if anyone?

Who is the prince that is promised, if it comes to pass?

Can danny be the night queen?  OR will bran become the night king?

Who dies first?

Who lives?

etc.

I don’t think any of the real complex twists are going to happen.  I think they have largely had to abandon the bigger ideas because it has proven very hard to film.  It requires far too much exposition and they can only film so much.  My guess is that the action in the final season will be spectacular but the story will be vanilla.  Jon and Danny as king and queen.  Jamie dies heroically.  Cersei dies non-heroically.  The Hound finds redemption.  Bran continues to just be a weird kid in a wheelchair.

I think we may see Tyrion take a dark twist and that may be the only thing that people don’t see coming.

I disagree.  Bran is one of the more interesting characters in the book - the first book begins (aside from prelude material) from his perspective, so I would not be surprised if it all ends from that view as well (assuming he ever finishes the damned books).

I don’t think Bran really considers himself to be “one of the Starks” anymore now that he’s the three-eyed raven. He’s so detached from everyone around him, and he’s even said in the show that he can no longer be the lord of Winterfell.

I doubt he indentifies himself with his family anymore.

About what I expected, but they’ve got a lottttt of shit to wrap up in only six episodes. Was also hoping that if nothing else, the finale would’ve been 100-120 mins, but what can you do?

More evidence they’re going to rush the ending and paper over it with a bunch of big expensive CGI.

The CGI stuff is fun but also the least compelling part of the show.
