OT: Final Thread: MGoBlog Happy Hour in NOLA
Alright, I am getting tired of the threads regarding where to eat/MGOBLOG Happy Hour in NoLa.
I used to bartend in the Quarter before recently relocating back to Ann Arbor, and I am heading down for the game. I am willing to setup/organize some sort of MGoBlog Happy Hour. Includind helping people get to the spot etc. by metting up and getting people there.
The two most common suggestions are:
1)Meeting up to watch the Rose Bowl as a a group.
2)Meeting up for drinks then hitting the Quarter.
While I never normally would want to go out in the Quarter, it is something everyone should see/do when in New Orleans at some point.
Regarding watching the Rose Bowl as a group, I would suggest going to Cooter Browns which is in Uptown off the St. Charles Streetcar line. If that is something people would like to do, which would allow people to see a bit of "Old" New Orleans along St. Charles, I would be more than happy to help facilitate people getting there from the Quarter easily on the Streetcar.
If we wanted to meet up and go out in the Quarter.. I would suggest we arrange to meet at Harrys Corner for drinks and get to party a bit. Classic divey New Orleans bar. Bartenders are about as pro-Michigan as SEC fans get as it used to be my 6 night a week hang out. Space indoors is kind of tight but easily could hold everyone and with drinks allowed in the street, plenty of room to overflow. It is off of Bourbon so it would be a little less wild to meet up in first. It is located by the Cathederal at Jackson Square. From there I would suggest going as a group to the dueling piano bar at Pat O'Brians for Hurricanes.. (Even though I dont think those are the best, the dueling pianos are great).
If people are serious I am willing to provide some contact info, and also get in touch with Cooters/Harrys and see what we could do. Please let me know. I don't want to get hung out to dry!

Duffies is always a HUGE party, whenever there is a Michigan game. I would suggest getting there early for a night game.

I'm coming and staying at the Ritz with my Avatar. I like the Rose Bowl party idea instead of roaming the quarter but am up for whatever the group decides.

For those of us getting into town in time for nye, we have a game on the first and if i recall it is on btn. I would assume locations with btn are limited (directv) but id figure if a bunch of us packed a bar somewhere we could get it on

Forgot about gathering for Minnesota basketball game 1/1/12. Keep in mind that is a Sunday and you are competing against fans of the NFL games. Fortunately the Saints game is at 1:00 pm.

What time does the Rose Bowl start? I'm not getting in until Tuesday afternoon. Are old people with spouses allowed?

Forgive me if my reading comprehension is lacking, but is a plan established yet as far as a meet-up?! I love the idea of meeting up somewhere, especially for Rose Bowl viewing. Is Cooter Browns too big a hastle to get to or is the street car a pretty efficient method of transportating the city? Either way, I hope a 'set-plan' gets enacted.

I think cooters would be a great idea for a meet up. By streetcar, you would just get on the St Charles line going towards "Claiborne" not Canal. (i.e. get on at canal), and go on down until it turns up claiborne.
Its at the bend in the line, its easy to spot, and i'd be more than happy to provide contact info for myself. A cab from the quarter would cost roughly 15 dollars.
I will be back in my old stomping grounds from the 31st-5th.
