OT: Family Cargo bike

Peeps,

Thing 1 is too big for the trailer, thing 2 is too big or too small for most solutions.

I am looking at Electric cargo bike - (cargo Bike where you pedal with electric assistance...)

I see you have some where the children just sat on an adapted rack above the back wheel.
Or you have some with children seating in a front loading area.

My wife want the one with the back loading.
I got a feeling the front loading is better.

Any feedbikes (Yep - Dad pun intended).

(If you have a used one to sell in the midwest ...  )

I managed to get stuck behind one of those bikes for about a mile or so of Middlebelt Road in southern Wayne County a while back (near where I live anyway). Nice bike, although the guy took his time on a bike that I know can do better than his leisurely speed certainly (granted, Middlebelt is a 45 MPH road, but still.....)

The Ural started life as a pre-WWII BMW produced in what became East Germany. The Russians appropriated the factory and produced a verbatim copy until the mid-80s when even the Russians stopped buying them.   The brand was resurrected in the 90’s with some updates, but it’s still a pig. The only ones that exceed 60mph are those dropped out of an airplane.

I think this is an awesome idea - I wish these had been more prevalent 10+ years ago (or that I'd been more aware of them?) when my kids were younger.  As I ride mostly by myself for enjoyment these days (now that my commute has changed from 12 miles each way to about 12 feet), I haven't looked into e-bikes much.  But I'm very excited about the opportunities they offer for greater access, greener travel, and more enjoyable living.

I don't know that I'd be as comfortable with one of the front-loading ones (bakfiets?) just from habit, but they seem to offer more awareness and engagement between rider and passengers, which may be more fun overall.  I've seen lots of folks cruising around with their kids in both types and used to regularly see a mom and her 3 kids with an Urban Arrow (front).  I think for shopping, cargo, etc., a backloaded feels more natural and might offer the ability to handle longer/wider loads. I know a few people that have Tern GSDs and they absolutely love them.

Saw this article which compares a few of them (though you're likely way ahead with your research already):  https://www.wired.com/gallery/best-electric-cargo-bikes/

I read a review and saw a couple videos for Ride1Up.  It is a pedal assist bike that doesn't look a thing like an e-bike.  It has been highly rated by every review I have read and sells for under $1000.

A good friend and all-around-fantastic guy owns one of the premier cargo bike shops in Portland, and certainly one of the top in the nation.  They ship all around the country; some customers even fly him out to assemble.

I’m a hard core cyclist but my kids are grown.  Personally I’ve always admired the Bullitts.  Spendy, but exceptionally well-made.

Peruse their stock on line, ask for Joel if you dive in.
