OT: Euro Quarters

Place your comments here for the games earlier today and tomorrow. 2 pretty good games today.

Lots of really good goalkeeping in both games. Belgian was unlucky to have only scored a goal, but the big revelation for me today was Doku on Belgian. 19, big, and looked super dangerous on the ball. Playing for Rennes. The big boys are going to be all over him after his performance today.

Yeah Doku looked really good.  Italy played some great d today.  At least KDB can get some much needed rest before the Prem starts again.

Italy is definitely playing the most consistently of any team thus far. Smart money is on them, but high variability in single game elimination makes this tough to call.

Italy is a fucking embarrassment.  Check out the replay of their first allowed goal.  Italy dude is in the fetal position faking an injury outside of the 6 yard box.

He hears the roar of the crowd and and jumps up from like a sniper shot him to celebrating with his team.

Yeah, I saw that same thing. Made me sarcastically laugh. But in fairness, lying on the ground and acting like one just had one's leg amputated isn't an "Italy" thing, it is a problem / embarrassment with men's soccer. Some of the best players in the world are the worst offenders (come take a bow Neymar.) I have long wanted a rule change that if your "injury" causes a stoppage of play, you need to go to the sidelines for a predetermined amount of time (2 minutes?) with exceptions for fouls that produced a yellow or red card. This stuff needs to stop.

True about Italy soccer. I love Italy and Italians but what a bunch of prima donnas. Another annoyance is when half their team immediately surrounds the referee after a call against them, as though a death sentence had just been handed out. Just start handing out yellow cards like candy. They embarrass themselves and the game.

ESP v SUI was quite possibly the worst PK in the history of PKs.  There were times that I wondered if anyone wanted to win it.

The policy with VAR should be that if a ref thinks a straight red is warranted, he first gives a yellow and goes straight to the monitor to see if a red is appropriate.  It’s not a delay, since it’s going to be looked at by an official anyway.  Giving the red initially when it has almost no hope of being rescinded leads to game-changing bad decisions by officials.
