OT: Dylan Larkin second straight game-winning goal for Red Wings

Submitted by yossarians tree on

Beat Blaine Bishop in the 3rd period tonight. 4 goals, 9 points in 12 NHL games. He even got into a scrum with Stamkos tonight. Even more remarkably, +10 is second in the NHL to Subban of Montreal. Mickey Redmond, Osgood, and Elliott raving about his play, including Ogood comparing him to Jonathan Toews at this age. Not too shabby and God willing this kid will be wearing the "C" in Detroit for a looooonnnnnggggg time. And, he should be wearing the red, white, and blue in the Olympics very soon.

Very nice touch. I noticed that they did that during the season opener at the Joe. They also played the MSU fight song for Abdelkader - since he had the hat trick. That was one of the best Red Wings games I've ever been too. New Coach, Babcock's return, Larkin first game and first goal. Was great.

I was at the Islander/Devils game earlier tonight. Cammalleri and Merrill play for the Devils. Was a good game  - Isles won 2-1. Watching the Wings replay now.

Went to the game in Calgary 2 weeks ago and had great seats. Walking down to my row saw the person sitting next to me had on a Larkin jersey. Small thing but made me feel like this kid is going to be something great.

Another thing to remember, the top 10 of the NHL draft is always dominated by CHL (Canadian major-junior) kids, with a few Euro's sprinkled in.  The CHL kids get a lot more exposure early on because they get drafted at 15 versus the kids that go the AAA/USHL/NCAA route.  The 2015 NHL draft where you had 3 NCAA players in the top 10 was an anomaly.

That was the best, most complete game I've seen the Wings play all season.  Hopefully this is a sign of how they'll play going forward.

Oh, and Larkin? After his scuffle with Stamkos in the 1st, when the Lightning were pressing late the in 3rd and Stamkos was leaving his own zone with a ton of empty ice in front him, Larkin picked his pocket Datsyuk-style and the Wings created a great scoring chance off the steal that would have iced the game. Loved it.

May have to pick up a Larkin jersey. I am surprised he looks fast even in the NHL.

Each year,  Dad wears a Yzerman uni and I proudly wear my Probie jersey. Detroit has been dealt some bad hands with regards to pro sports but Mr Illitch seems to poop gold and we all benefit - love watching this young Wings team and expect them to do more than just extend their playoff streak once Pavel comes back.

I think the Red Wings may have pulled off one of the quietest "rebuilds" I have ever seen. The amount of under 30 talent is crazy considering how infrequently the team has 1st round picks of any kind. Let alone ones high enough to get the likes of Larkin (as he is right now). If his draft was to be re-picked, no way he goes lower than 5.

The Wings have assembled quite the homegrown talent behind the bench and on the ice. How many Michigan born guys are there now? And there's a few more Americans beyind that too.

Ferraro, Green,Quincey, and Richards. Shehan and Smith are too but we take credit for them since they went to school here ; )  I stretch local to include members of CCHA/ Big10.

btw Blashill was born in Detroit raised in Sault Ste Marie, played G for Ferris State, was head coach at Western before the Grand Rapids gig. He may be the most Michigander guy on the team!

so you definitely get a pass. I see Babcock was named Team Canada's head coach. Not sure he's the best available but he has two golds and Canada is scared shitless of choking.

Blashill's top assistant Tony Granato (love him) is also as American as apple pie. Can't imagine he will last long as an assistant coach.
