OT: Dune Part 2(no spoilers)
Big Dune reader here, saw part 2 about a week ago, going tonight again. Also a big fan of Denis Villeneuve(arrival, sicario, prisoner).
I highly suggest you see this on the biggest screen you can. I thought it was great, some changes from the book but I think they make sense. Amazing pace that breezes by. If you loved part 1, you'll love this.
Brian created mgoblog to train the faithful.
Simple.
1. Play music composed by Toto
2. Jump off the sandworm
3. ....
4. Profit
they use the kick stand. easy-peasey
In the books, they ride the worms until they get tired out and people start bailing. The worm then burrows deep into the sand to recover so less risk of being eaten.
Depends what you mean by “get off”
🤭🥵🥰
Just saw it and enjoyed it, thought it was better than part one, also I liked the changes from the book, helped to keep things streamlined.
Is it watchable for someone who’s never seen the previous movies?
There’s only one other movie, and part one and two are really one movie (they are both book one), so I’d definitely say to watch the first. But…
You could probably still enjoy it. They give context to what happened in the first movie. It just wouldn’t have the same weight
Don’t forget the sci fi channel miniseries, which IMO was very good if you can handle the made-for-TV production value
The book series has a very devoted following (although the first few books were probably the most accessible).
And like any huge work (like Lord of the Rings) it can be hard to watch a film if you don't have a sense of what it is about ahead of time and it isn't for everyone - so if you go, don't expect a star wars like pew pew movie. David Lynch's 1984 version had its moments and the first few scenes which basically lay out the plot of the film really was clever solution to this problem:

"I did not say this. I was not here" - one of many great lines. Look also, as the Navigator leaves, his crew cleans up after him. In the book it is retrieve any stray bits of Spice, but it looks like they are trying to buff out any scuff marks they made in the Emperor's beautiful marble floor with their transport tank.
Villenuve having the benefit of more time - took a more leisurely measured pace but it is a stunning film.
Brian created mgoblog to train the faithful - truly, and Seth can explain the allusions to the Ottoman Empire, the symbolism of the Spice standing in for oil,
I always thought those guys did a horrible job cleaning up. That scene isn't in the book btw(that I recall) but I do think it helps the audience.
Also one of the guys trips and falls while they’re walking in.
I’ll just leave this here
Planning to see it soon just for the Dunussy.
get that sweet popcorn bucket shai huludussy
I guess that settles it. I will be seeing this after hearing multiple rave reviews. Still haven't seen the first one yet. I was a bit leery because I was a big fan of the books, and was afraid of being let down.
Yeah, I'm that "the book is better guy" on for the reason that the novels paint of version of your own personal picture in your mind, and if a movie version doesn't jibe with it, shits on the novel, or the director takes many liberties with the film version, it's such a letdown.
saw D2 yesterday with some of the kids. i am like you that in general the book is better, but they did a great job in both movies so as a fan of dune you will like it, probably love it. D2 overall was very good with a few parts that i thought were A+/outstanding. they do some slight changes to the plot, but nothing of great substance and it doesn't detract from the overall movie.
suggestion: rent the new D1 on netflix or some other service. you'll enjoy it. then go see D2.
Upvoted for the last line.
"What's inside that 2008 UFR post?"
"Pain."
Saw it in IMAX today and it was so good, likable story line and actors.
