OT: Duke bans tailgating
Apparently, Duke is banning tailgating because they found a 14-year-old passed out in a port-a-john.
Goodness me, what a can of worms. Is this overreacting and punishing the many because of the actions of one? Should there have been better security/police at the tailgating scene? Parents anywhere to be found?
Is anyone aware of any such a thing happening during tailgating in Ann Arbor?

I heard they were going to ban metal and plastic silverware too. For safety purposes of course.

Don't let the lacrosse team at Duke hear this.

I heard somewhere that Duke has also gone to great lengths to keep students who have been drinking out of basketball games. As a result the once-legendary Cameron crowd is now a bit of a joke. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

That is not accurate at all.

Have to think Duke football tailgating is a relatively lonely experience...hence the heavy drinking?

Aside from the douche undergrads the tailgate scene is not bad. You get a lot of grad students from all over (Texas, Michigan, USC, UCLA, etc) and they know how to tailgate. It was an awesome tailgate experience for the Alabama game. I was in my Michigan btw.

I was only joking - sure it is fun - tailgating is good everywhere

Probably more kids in tent city at Duke waiting for their basketball game next week than tailgating for a football game that day.

If you have ever been to Duke, but K'Ville is pretty small. You are talking probably 200-300 max waiting for tics, while you have 800-1000 tailgating. The only time you see K'Ville packed to the max is when UNC, Maryland, GT roll into town. It will be the same for MSU, but the tailgating scene is far larger at Duke for football then people camping for tics.

I'd be passed out in a port-a-john too. Do you blame him? Lousy football is much better seen drunk...

I went to Duke (class of 1996). I can say with certainty that I never knew any student that actually tailgated for a football game. The only game I even went to in 4 years was a florida state game and that was just so I could see Charlie Ward. I didnt even know there was a Duke Tailgate so I doubt its any big loss
Basketball is obviously a different story. 100 tents camped out for a Duke/UNC game was an amazing experience.
I love Duke but I was born in Ann arbor, grew up in Michigan, went to UM for grad school and am a Wolverine at heart. I root for Duke but I bleed Wolverines!
