OT: Drew Henson in Reverse: Tebow Giving Up Football for Baseball
Actually, football gave up Tim Tebow before Tim Tebow gave up football. Still, the parallels to Drew Henson are interesting.

I still hate George Steinbrenner.
He does know that part of playing baseball is throwing the ball, right?
He doesn't have to put a spiral on a baseball.
Maybe his hideous throwing motion lends itself well to knuckleballs or other weird pitches.
He can always use Crisco, Bardol, Vagisil & snot.
Chuck Knoblauch didn't need to throw a spiral
TT should just go on the Bachelor and parlay that into a GMA or SEC network gig.
He would fit right in on The View.
But it's his life. Best of luck to him. He'll be successful no matter what he does.

The CFL has been waiting for him for years.
I agree he's crazy to not go to the CFL. If he does well there he could potentially parlay that into an NFL gig.

Don't think I'm saying anything inflammatory or offensive, and I'm not inviting a religious commentary, but I do want to share that Tebow confuses me.
My potentially flawed assumptions:
1. The more competitive you are, it is fair to assume the more likely you are to be egocentric. Your will to do your best and to win is more important to you than the will or desires of your competitors.
2. Conversely the more devout you are (especially Tebow's given faith), it is fair to assume the more likely you are to be altruistic (do unto others, etc.).
3. The more egocentric, the less altruistic you can be, and vice versa.
Tebow is legendary for his competitiveness and faith. A friend of mine who is also a man of strong faith, is good friends with Tebow. He told me Tebow is the hardest working and most competitive athlete he has known. The two of them also volunteer in Central America and do a ton of charity work.
I respect Tebow on both counts, but I just don't understand how he exhibits such strong egocentrism and altruism in unison. It just doesn't add up to me.
This leads me to think the above-mentioned assumptions about competitiveness/ faith/ egocentrism/ altruism are inaccurate.
I think your point is best highlighted when Tebow was mic'd up against the Bears in 2011. Ultra-competitive in-between the whistles and during crunch time, but one of the nicest human beings outside of those times:
for "Drew Henson in Reverse" headline. Well played, sir!

Well he does have a job. Look, he last played high school ball and was very good at. He chose football. The land is littered with very good former high school players. Now someone will sign him for the pub alone but he aint doing the former high school players now minor leaguers any favors being on their bus.
Tebow seems like a nice guy and all, but he either is delusional about his abilities or just has the worst ear for suggestions. I'm sure he'll get a single-A contract, hit like .198 for a dozen games, then leave and say something that will have a hint of religious zeal that will be read a bunch of different ways.
Jordan hit .202 so he's got that to shoot for.
Bro, you had your 15 mins, movve along, nobody is interested, well except all the pathetic gator fans. I remember this guy picking turf out of his facemask and whining to the refs because he had not been hit all year in the SEC as hard as Micchigan did in the bowl game.
Tim Tebow's business is Tim Tebow inc. Football ain't getting him much attention (athletic wise) these days so he's got to try some other shtick. That's just my .02 and my .02 only. You're the most knowledgable guy on recruiting and if you say it I'm in agreement but with regards to this guy's baseball aspirations, I think it's for the attention but more power to him, maybe he can get something accomplished. My questoion is this, how long is he willing to take the grind iit out life that is a underpaid minor leaguer?
It's immaterial whether he's any good at it or not. Lots of people have tried to play baseball and done poorly, even after stellar high school/college careers. The guy is a good athlete, and he wants to try another sport. Why does it matter so much to you whether he's good or bad at it? I'm guessing many of us would be trying to play various sports professionally if we had the genes, work ethic, talent, etc.
Jim Harbaugh said something the other day about how you haven't set your dreams high enough if people aren't laughing at you for them. I'd rather be Tim Tebow than the guy making fun of him on the internet for trying to be a pro athlete.
How about a cliche from the 10's at least?
I know you're an expert.
But I don't look to you as my expert on human character. Guy likes the attention IMO.
I'm not claiming to be an expert on human character. I'm just offering my opinion. I assume you're not an expert on human character, either, so we're both doing the same. However,I think it's odd to single him out as an "attention whore" when many, many other athletes try to draw attention to themselves in various ways (wild clothing, Ezekiel Elliott showing off his abs on the red carpet, tweeting outrageous things, etc.). Tim Tebow wants to make a living as an athlete in a different sport and he's an "attention whore," but that same epithet doesn't seem to pop up for the guys who dress flashy, speed all over the place, show up on various television/movie comedies/dramas, etc. As I intimated elsewhere in this thread, I doubt Tebow would be getting so much hate if not for the fact that he's an open Christian.

I don't remember this kind of criticism when Nate Robinson tried out for the Seahawks a little while back either.

And my sinicere apologies to Tim Tebow and his fans but if he wants to be a professional athlete couldnt't he have played in the NFL or CFL as a fullback or TE maybe? This would be your field of expertise but I really wanted to see him grind it out in a role like that when it became painfully obvious he wasn't a NFL QB. I was shocked that he didn't move into a role like this and he just left football. From what I can see, he only wanted to be the star QB. The problem was there weren't any openings for star QB in the NFL, he would have needed to grind it out in a role where he would not have been the star (right away, but maybe in time).but he never stepped up to it. Now it seems to me he wants to jump into the major leagues but maybe he should just sign up for a Mnor league team and prove himself first. There again will take time, if he gets on a minor league team and bails relaitvely quickly it will be a sign to me. If he gets on a minor league teem and grinds it out for a couple of years, hey he's got my respect not that he even needs it.
Now JJ Watt, there's a guy I admire. He like Tebow, was a star in HS, went to the MAC, realized it wasn't what he wanted and so refocused on where he wanted to be. He delivered pizzas in his hometown and kids would recognize the local star Pizza Hut delivery guy. That was humbling for him. He had to walk on as a red shirt, switch positions. Not everyone is JJ Watt I know but that's a guy I admire.

If I remember correctly, Tebow had an offer from USA Rugby to give it a go but he declined. Outside of being a fullback/tight end, rugby is the one sport where Tebow's considerable skills would be of use. He would be a load to tackle as a center with a full head of steam.
Don't forget Jesus saves but the starting pitcher is still pissed he got yanked from the game.

Was Tebow any kind of a baseball prospect coming out of high school. I mean Henson was obviously a big deal in baseball coming out of school but i've never heard Tebow and baseball mentioned in the same sentence.

Tim Tebow last played in 2005 as a high school junior where he made the All-State team, hit 0.494 and gained interest from a handful of MLB scouts (mainly the LA Angels). There were teams that were considering drafting Tebow if he played out his senior season, but instead Tebow decided to focus on football and skipped his last season on the diamond.
Urban Meyer actually has an andedote about how he initially wasn't that impressed with Tebow's film, and didn't consider Tebow his top QB target as a recruit. What won Urban over was serendipitously watching one of Tebow's baseball games on a recruiting visit, and seeing Tebow in-action as a leader. Urban said that the way Tebow led his baseball team and commanded all his teammates' respect was like nothing he had ever seen from a high schooler, and Tebow immediately became a "must-get" for Urban on the recruiting trail.
