OT: Cinncy Michigan Bars

Submitted by Angry-Dad on August 16th, 2021 at 8:58 PM

Thought I better ask before OT season ends.  Going to watch the Tigers series in Cincinnati from the 3rd to the 5th.  Looking for a Michigan friendly place to watch the Wolverines destroy the Broncos (my dads alma mater and Kalamazoo the place of my childhood.)  Any suggestions? Thought maybe we had some southern Ohio folks on the board.

Also, Barry Larkin Bobble Head night on Saturday.  Going in full Michigan Gear!  Please delete this, I found a Michigan alumni page on facebook that says to go to Kitty's Sports Grill.  My bad for not doing the research.

I think it's time to start spending more time with grownups. Seeing this title, my mind immediately went to someone in Cincy selling Michigan-branded granola bars.

This is true.  I have been to the Amway center downtown many times as a kid.  My grandma liked the little bar they had there.  They had virgin pina colada and served them in a little glass boot.  Funny the stuff you remember from childhood.  She also like Charlies Crab which I thought was gross as a kid.

Born and raised in Cincy, you won't find a Michigan bar. They will put the game on for you pretty much anywhere, but just be ready to be hassled by OSU fans. Usually all in good fun, until they have too many Nati Lights.

If you are going to be downtown, there are plenty of places to watch, such as The Holy Grail (right across the street from GABP), Moerlein Lager House, etc. But the best wings I have ever had were from a small bar called Knockback Nats, however they aren't a place with 40 flatscreens.

Breweries,

Third Eye Brewing, located in Sharonville, ie about 12 miles north of downtown cincy, great quality Brews.  Great food as well with a brewery!

Rivertown, a little further north than Thirdeye, also has some great ipa's..

March First Brewing, again many quality brews.

Rheingiest Truth IPA

Mad Tree psychopathy IPA..

Nine Giant, solid beer and paired well with food.

Braxton

50 West

Taft Ale House, bets atmosphere by far and good food pairs

Darkness Brewing in NKY, bellevue ky right across the river and a great little hole in the wall with high quality craft beer..  Lots of fun here and a food truck with some good unique eats.

Urban Artifact is the only one I haven't been to.  It's in northside, but close to downtown cincy.. many sours that are good from my friends that are huge fans of Sours!

I'd recommend others but I know these places and are all good breweries.

I'll second Knockback Nats for wings, not a good spot to watch the game though. Good wings can also be found at The Oak Tavern or Mt. Lookout Tavern (about 10 Minutes out of downtown); Both do smoked then grilled wings and have several TVs for games. If I recall correctly, they both have a Michigan flag on the wall, as well.

Near the Oak Tavern is Madtree Brewing. North Downtown is Rhinegeist or Braxton (OTR location). These are probably the biggest names in beer in the city with a wide range of styles.

For smaller breweries with good beers (not too far out of downtown), I'd suggest Brink, Listermann, Nine Giant, High Grain, or Streetside.

You're not really going to find a Michigan Bar anywhere in Cincinnati, way too many OSU Fans.  Don't forget, the only thing OSU likes better then winning a football game is watching Michigan Football.   So it will be on everywhere.

the answer to this is Kitty's on 3rd street in Cincinnati.  Kitty's is 100% a Michigan Bar and is extremely close to the Reds Stadium.  The owner will be smoking wings etc. as well... it is the only Michigan Bar I know of.  100% the only place I can watch THE GAME in Ohio.

Looks like Kitty's is the place!  I checked out their facebook page and they have a Michigan flag, figure that is as good as it is going to get.  Looking forward to it, have not been to Cincy in several years.  The last time I was their Over the Rhine was just starting to change into a kind of hipster area.  Be interested to check that area out as well.  Any cool bars in that area?  I have only been to Arnold's.  Which was a cool bar.

Arnold's Is great. The OTR bar scene is fairly strong.

Up Main Street in the evenings you'll get the DJs and dance scene at Japps, Mr. Pitifuls, or Free Live Music at MOTR Pub. The Pony is also on Main street and more chill.

Vine Street has a more relaxed bar scene with bars like The Lackman or Sundry & Vice for cocktails.

Great weekend in Cincinnati!  Michigan W at Kitty's sports bar (which is no doubt a Michigan bar if you are in town and need to catch the game.)  Tigers took 2 of 3 from the Reds, and I ran into Mgoblog user "thatguycharlie".  Charlie with the little league troll rocking a Taylor North jersey on the night the Reds honored the runners up from Ohio.  He claimed it was not intentionally, I have my suspicions.

Got the Larkin bobbleheads and had a great time.  Cool city with good bars and breweries.  Thanks to everyone that sent a suggestion!
